Hey MKat,

I'm sorry, but I don't understand. For this challenge we are not allowed to use ebook, paperback, etc for page count? I believe I read the ebook copy.

message 102: by Chan (new)

Chan | 5093 comments I hate it when i create more work for the mods, so i read through the rules again, but the only thing i see is this:

There is a 150 page minimum for books, rereads and audios ok. Books may only be used once per player during the challenge. Players may read the same book for a task unless otherwise specified. Books do not have to be romance, but must be fiction.

message 103: by Chan (new)

Chan | 5093 comments I can do two books. my first book is Last Chance Christmas. It just made the page requirement :o)

message 104: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 2931 comments It says you have to use Kindle first, and if there isn't a Kindle Edition, then you can use ebook.

**For this challenge, use the GR Kindle first edition page count if available. Ebook page count will be acceptable if no Kindle page count available. The acceptability of other page counts will be made on an individual basis**

message 105: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 2931 comments Ooh, I found another I like better! Love T. S. Joyce. Steal Her Heart

I'll do this one first, and go back to the alien one if needed.

Thanks, Courtney. I completely missed that. I'll update in a moment.

Changing my book :) I'm trying to get through some of the books I have on Netgalley and this one is a bit shorter than the first one I picked so I should get it read quicker!

No worries, Sarah...these challenges are meant to be fun, not stressful! Just do the best you can and enjoy yourself - as far as I'm concerned, having a good time is much more important than "winning"!

Thanks Karen, this is a really fun challenge!

message 119: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 2931 comments Yeah, don't worry about it! My reading time is super sporadic. I mostly just have time on the weekends and when my son actually takes a nap during the week 🤣. So I'll have rushes where I read a lot, and then dry spells.

message 120: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 2931 comments Omg, KarenH, that cover is the worst 😂. The precis actually sounds good, but I had to mark a different edition for my 'to read' shelf because the weird photoshop on that is killing me 🤣.

~KarenH~ | 11359 comments Courtney wrote: "Omg, KarenH, that cover is the worst 😂. The precis actually sounds good, but I had to mark a different edition for my 'to read' shelf because the weird photoshop on that is killing me 🤣."

Yeah, it's pretty bad! I don't pay a lot of attention to covers most of the time, mostly because the thumbnails are small enough to look past so unless I'm looking for a cover item I generally don't pay them much attention. I hadn't noticed how bad this one really was until you mentioned it.

message 122: by ~KarenH~, Moderator (new)

~KarenH~ | 11359 comments Also, unlike a lot of people, I don't really care that I have the exact edition on my shelves that I own or read. In fact, even though the vast majority of my "reading" is actually listening, on the occasions that I do actually pay attention to editions, I generally go for the Kindle version.

Chan | 5093 comments Sarah wrote: "So sorry guys, I'm a lot slower than the rest of you. I feel bad about trying to keep up."

Do what you can. I'm just glad there is another challenge to take my mind off of being stuck indoors.

hahaha. i had the same thoughts about the cover. Yikes.

I usually read books blind, so unless a book is rec'ed to me, i go by title and cover.

I did add the book though since Karen rated it high and Courtney said the precis sounded interesting.

~KarenH~ | 11359 comments Chan wrote: "I'm just glad there is another challenge to take my mind off of being stuck indoors."

I feel really fortunate right now to be living where I do...well, I always feel fortunate to live here, but especially now! I'm in a very small, rural community with relatively few people and a lot of space to be outside and not worry about being too close to other people. It's very common to chat with neighbors while we're both doing our own thing in our own yards, with lots of space between us, so there really hasn't been a lot of adjusting as long as I'm at home. Of course there's still lots of stress, everyone has that, but at least when I'm home things feel relatively normal so I'm not having to deal with feeling cooped up inside on top of everything else!

message 126: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 2931 comments That sounds nice. I'm super happy to be in Taiwan. Life is pretty much the same here. We have to wear masks most places, but that's about it. Businesses and schools are still open. It sounds so surreal when I see what is happening elsewhere on the news!

message 127: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 2931 comments I usually put whatever edition comes up automatically when I pick a book. I don't really look at them until I'm trying to pick something to read. But sometimes if they're a bit "much" I'll change the cover of the ebook on Calibe 😂.

I agree with Courtney, it does sound nice.

Wow, Courtney. Beyond the masks life is normal. I kind of wish they would have closed the schools early here or given another week to work out the kinks for online school. My niece is with me and I have to help her with her schoolwork and it is...{shaking head}. Even the teachers are frustrated.

message 129: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 2931 comments Yeah, it's so nuts to me. When everything started here, it was the Chinese New Year holidays, so schools and most businesses were closed. The government just extended the holiday two weeks and that was it. Schools opened back up, and they just made every child wear masks and they took temperatures when anyone came in. There was one school that closed as a precaution for an additional two weeks because one of the students came up positive, and that was all. I've heard the students here are angry, though, because the rest of the world is on break, and they're the only ones still in school 😂.

Online school is so tough, though. I honestly just can't learn that way. I need the interaction in a regular classroom. I feel bad for everyone trying to navigate this environment.

MountainKat | 31670 comments Well done - here is Task 3:

58. Read a minimum of 750 pages in books published in any one year prior to 2018, team picks the year.

Please agree on a year and use that as your qualification.

message 136: by ~KarenH~, Moderator (new)

~KarenH~ | 11359 comments Wow, that was quick!!!

~KarenH~ | 11359 comments 58. Read a minimum of 750 pages in books published in any one year prior to 2018, team picks the year.

Ok, I have books on my M&G list from 2014, 15, 16 and 17, and all of them are over 300 pages, so everyone else would only need to read one book (150 page minimum to meet challenge requirements). I can also go farther back if it works better for everyone, but I'm assuming the more recent the year the easier it will be to find books! What works for the rest of you?

message 138: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 2931 comments So, what year do you want? I really want to get to Romancing the Duke and Play, and they're both 2014 😂. I have a few new books to get to, too. So 2020 works for me, too!

message 139: by ~KarenH~, Moderator (new)

~KarenH~ | 11359 comments 2020 won't work...the year needs to be before 2018. I'm fine with 2014, but let's see if that works for Chan and Sarah.

message 140: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 2931 comments Oh, yeah, sorry. Just saw that! 😂

message 141: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 2931 comments The Kindle Edition of Romancing the Duke is 417 pages 🤯! So we'd be close to the 750 with that. Although 400 pages will probably take me 3 or 4 days to finish. I can look for something shorter though.

message 142: by ~KarenH~, Moderator (last edited Apr 19, 2020 05:50PM) (new)

~KarenH~ | 11359 comments My 2014 book (Dead Heat) is over 400 pages, too. I'd be listening to the audio though, and while it's 12.5 hours at regular speed, with this narrator I generally speed it up to either 1.25x or 1.5x, so that will cut the time down. Tomorrow is also the last good weather day in the forecast for a while, and I'm way behind in my spring yardwork - lots of cedar trees around me means lots of cleanup every spring - so I'll have plenty of listening time tomorrow while I'm raking and burning. 🙄 That applies to whatever year we choose though...not specific to 2014!

message 143: by [deleted user] (last edited Apr 19, 2020 05:54PM) (new)

One of the books I have to get to next (for another challenge) is from 2018. Between You & Me by Susan Wiggs on audio, and I can get it done in a few days. Comes in at 368 pages (Kindle).

Also, I took a look at Audible Escape and found With This Heart by R.S. Grey published in 2014 (according to Goodreads). Kindle edition 318 pages.

I pretty easy though, let me know what works for everyone else.

message 144: by ~KarenH~, Moderator (last edited Apr 19, 2020 05:56PM) (new)

~KarenH~ | 11359 comments The Susan Wiggs one won't work...it needs to be prior to 2018, so 2018 isn't included. 😕

message 145: by [deleted user] (new)

Dammit.. clearly I can't read lol

Happy to read the R.S. Grey one!

message 146: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 2931 comments The original Kindle version of Brigand: 4 is 2014 and only 165 pages. I could just do that quick, and then with Karen's 400 and Sarah's 300, we'll hit the 750. If Chan gets done with something else quicker, it'll work fine, too.

message 147: by Chan (new)

Chan | 5093 comments okay cool. 2014 it is :o)

message 148: by Chan (new)

Chan | 5093 comments Question: if 2 team members' books add to more than 750 pages, is it required for the other 2 members to finish their books?

I'm planning on reading a book, just curious if it is required for all members to participate in the task for it to be completed.

message 149: by Courtney (last edited Apr 19, 2020 06:49PM) (new)

Courtney | 2931 comments That's a good question! I was thinking it didn't matter if we all read, as long as it's 750 pages, but now I think it must be that we all read at least one...

message 150: by Chan (new)

Chan | 5093 comments Nevermind found the answer

Each teammate will need to participate in each task, but may take a pass for one task during the course of the challenge.
