The Amazing Race Team Challenge - Stranded Readers (2)
So, whatever task we get next is the one where we just read as many that fit as we can before Tuesday?(Sorry, I'm terrible with figuring out the time change)

That's correct, although I've posted a question for Kat asking for clarification on whether midnight Eastern time on Tuesday will mean noon Tuesday for you or noon Wednesday. She's busy posting the new tasks for all the teams right now, but I'm sure we'll get a response before too long.

Ok, we got a quick response - you have until noon Wednesday your time to complete the task...actually a bit before that since we need to have the completion posted in the Q&A thread by then, but you get the idea!
Here is your LAST task!100. Read a book with an average rating of 4.2 or higher. No pass for this task. You can read as many books as you wish, each book completed earns a point.
The books you choose need to have an average GR rating of 4.2 or higher. You can find this number on the main book page, use the average rating in your qualification. There is no pass for this task - so every team member needs to complete a book before the task is considered complete and points are tallied. Completions need to be posted prior to midnight US EDT on Tuesday, June 9th when the challenge ends.

. Been meaning to get to it forever!"I loved that series!
I've got several on my M&G list that qualify, so figured I'd just start working my way through them. All but one are audio, and several are by narrators that I can comfortably speed up to 1.5x to get through them a little faster. I started with The Billionaire's Touch and should be able to get through 3 or maybe 4 books by Tuesday evening, assuming RL doesn't interfere too much! 😛
Kat posted this in the Q&A thread, so I thought I'd bring it here to hopefully make things a little easier!Countdown Timer
I guess I should start posting my completions. I'm a third of the way done with my second book. The first one I read...OMGosh. It was awful. New to me author, but the rating was so high and it was rec'ed to me by a semi-coworker. I don't know what to say to her.

Maybe you can come up with something about it that wasn't horrible, and go with "well, it really wasn't my style, but I did like..."
Oh man, I don't really like anything in the precis of that one. I'm not big into suspense romance. I wouldn't have been able to get through it. From the title, I thought it was going to be a something funny, like a woman finds out her guy has another girlfriend and she does silly revenge stuff and finds a better guy 🤣.

It's one of my favs! They're so well written that even the depressing stuff isn't a drag to read. I've really loved all of them so far.

I like RS, or even just straight mystery/suspense, but nothing in that precis appealed to me.

Same goes the other way, if I rec something. No one gets offended and we still rec books to each other.
I'm just not sure how she would react. We've never rec'ed books to each other before, but I like how you phrased it - 'Wasn't my style, but I did like..."

I always get nervous making recommendations because I worry the other person will totally hate it! I just don't want to waste anyone's time (or money!).
I used to be the same way Courtney. But on GR, even if I rec something that a GR friend doesn't like, it's okay. they've made me feel comfortable.

Chan, you did it to me again! My TBR just keeps getting bigger and bigger!

Speaking of recommendations 🤣, I remember Karen that you read that Small Town Siren. If you like menage books, I really can't recommend Reece Butler's Highland and Bride Train series enough. I discovered them during my Highland romance phase 😄. I don't know why she has so few reviews of her books because I think for that genre, they're really good. (Maybe the terrible covers 🤔) The first book in each series is the weakest, but they get a lot better after that. The only annoying thing is that her Highland series each book is split into two parts, so you really need both. She was able to finish her Bride Train series, but her Highland one is still incomplete. I always feel bad because I imagine she just didn't get the sales for her publisher to continue with her. I always want to read them for challenges so I can share, but they never seem to fit for any task 🤣.

lol Enjoy!
Love in Catalina Cove is written by Brenda Jackson. The first book I read by her was A Brother's Honor. It was good, but you could tell she was setting the stage for the subsequent stories. But I like how she drew me in with the injustice and the family. So, i decided to give another of her stories a try and Catalina Cove didn't disappoint.
From Lukov with Love....It's Zapata. That says it all. LOL. We all know her stories are Looooooooooong and slow burn. The beginning of the story, i was kind of bored, but then the magic happens. I can't even explain what the magic is. All I know is that I lost the better half of a day reading this book.

Speaking of rec..."
I added Book 1 in Bride Train. I will keep in mind that the first books are the weakest and won't judge until after reading Book 2. Thanks for the rec :o)
Hope you like them! (3 and 7 are my favorites in that one) I still haven't read a Zapata, but it seems everyone loves them. Should I start with The Wall of Winnipeg and Me? I've had it on my TBR for a while.
Thanks Courtney, I'll check them out! As a general rule I'm actually not much of a menage fan. I read it occasionally, but not often. I am, however, a fan of Lexi Blake, and she wrote the Texas Sirens series under the name of Sophie Oak. It's a little strange that I like her stuff so much, because the majority of what she writes is BDSM, and menage under the other name, and neither of those are favorite sub-genres of mine. I read both, but generally only if something is recommended to me by someone whose tastes I trust to be at least somewhat similar to mine, or it's by an author that I know I like - I don't go looking for them. The Wall of Winnipeg and Me is the only Zapata I've read, but I really enjoyed it and already planned to read more, so Chan's comment was the nudge I needed to get one on my wishlist!

This is going to sound strange, but start with

or another one of Zapata books. Not
. That is one story I would've been okay skipping. Save TWoWaM after you read something else by Zapata. In my opinion, TWoWaM is the pinnacle of her portfolio. If interested, here is my review https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

I should have 1 more before the countdown ends. I wanted to do 2 more, but I'm struggling through The Happy Ever After Playlist. Hopefully it'll pick up. I didn't like book 1, but I wanted to give Abby Jimenez another chance.

I've got one more I should definitely finish and possibly a second one, but the second one I have to actually read rather than listen. I'm not a fast reader so we'll see...
just added this one.Karen, did you Cocky Bastard
is this similar or as good as Cocky Bastard? I see they are in the same series.
I did read Cocky Bastard and gave it 4 stars, but TBH I remember very little about it. Of course, it's been 3 years since I read it, and my plot retention tends not to last that long unless the book is spectacularly memorable...either good or bad. As far as I can tell, the books in this series are connected only very minimally, if at all...not sure why they're even listed as a series! I did enjoy Park Avenue Player, as I have everything written by Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward. And it was narrated by Andi Arndt and Sebastian York, so you know you can't go wrong there!
OMGosh...Andi Arndt AND Sebastian York. Two of my favorite narrators. Even if the storyline sucks, just listening to them will be worth it.
