Frankie Sims (authorfrankiesims) I haven't personally read too many books that were adapted into movies. Actually, I mostly pick up books because I enjoyed the movie first.

So, I don't have much of an opinion in this discussion, but let me know your thoughts! I'd love to hear your opinions!

Bailey the BookNerd (bn021206) Stargirl is really good!! Great adaptation! I feel like they did a good job.
Also Series of Unfortunate Events was really good on Netflix.
If you have read Between Shades is Gray, do not watch the movie ‘adaptation’ (it isn’t even close to the book- totally different plot) it’s called Ashes in the Snow

Abibliophobia-the fear of running out of things to read 🥺 | 23 comments I loved A Series of Unfortunate Events. Recently, I thought the new Emma adaptation was pretty good.

message 4: by Maddie (new)

Maddie I think Harry Potter was good. So are the Hungar Games.

YES! A series of unfortunate events is my FAVORITE !!! so glad someone else appreciates it !!!

message 6: by lucy Ü (new)

lucy Ü (lucyrodriguez) okay, here are some of my top faves:
Pride and Prejudice (the Keira Knightley version- I know a lot of people don't like it & I will admit that the BBC is more faithful to the book, but I love the music score in the movie version (: )
Harry Potter (all of them- though I am still sad to this day that they didn't include Winky in the fourth movie, but we'll just move past that)
Anne with an E & the Anne of Green Gables series!
Series of Unfortunate Events
Wonder (so so good, and so so sad)

there are so many others, but these are probably my top favorites!

I've been meaning to watch Stargirl! I read the book when I was younger and remember enjoying it. Should get around to watching the movie soon!

maria (mariaabarrosoo) | 7 comments i really liked the adaptation of “The Book Thief”, it was almost as perfect as the movie

maria (mariaabarrosoo) | 7 comments yass Little Women was great!

Abibliophobia-the fear of running out of things to read 🥺 | 23 comments Little Women was awesome! I saw it twice at the cinema! I was exactly surprised though when I saw the new Emma that I kind of liked it better. I think, unfortunately, Little Women doesn’t transfer well to a movie format since there are so many characters and plots and it is a little complex. Emma was really good as a movie since it is only really about the title character and it was more straight forward.

Grace Gonsalves (gracegoddamnit) | 47 comments Jurassic Park was great! I hadn’t read that book though. Also omg I didn’t know there was a movie for the book thief that’s seriously one of my all time faves!

message 16: by Alisha (new)

Alisha | 3 comments I just watched the new "Emma" adaptation, and I gotta say, it's one of my favourite Jane Austen adaptations ever. They really captured the humor and absurdity of the novel :D

I didn't know that the movies were based on books :o I'm definitely putting them on my tbr!

message 18: by kylee (new)

kylee I love Ready Player One’s movie so much! Sure, it’s much different than the book, but both versions are so good in their own ways.

message 19: by Jasmine (new)

Jasmine Yeah Ready Player One movie is awesome!!! Quite different from the book tho

Grace Gonsalves (gracegoddamnit) | 47 comments So I watched the movie version of The Da Vinci code and it was okay but something seemed to be missing, I just didn’t feel all that into it. Although, I get it’s hard to make a long ass book into a movie. I wonder why people love this movie so much??

message 24: by Grace (new)

Grace Gonsalves (gracegoddamnit) | 47 comments Still need to watch the sun is also a star it’s on my list!

message 25: by Lynn (new)

Lynn | 3 comments Harry Potter - brought the wizarding world to life
Little Women - definitely one of my favorite movies
The Kite Runner - so sad :')
Paper Towns was pretty good too. I need to reread it but I think I liked the movie better than the book

message 26: by Yasmine (new)

Yasmine (yasmine06) | 1 comments I liked the Hunger Games and thought it was almost identical to the book.

message 27: by [deleted user] (new)

almost. didn't have that girl mage or something. but you are right good movies.😎

message 28: by David (new)

David (dzt55) | 8 comments To Kill a Mockingbird. Both the book and the movie made me cry. Enough said.

David Lutkins The Lion in Winter by James Goldman
Fat City by Leonard Gardner
The Last Detail by Darryl Ponicsan
The Man Who Would Be King by Rudyard Kipling
They Shoot Horses, Don't They? by Horace McCoy
Midnight Cowboy by James Leo Herlihy

I think the common thread is that all these authors really understood human nature and created very memorable characters, and that the films were able to capture a lot of that.
