It's that time of year! Time to read as much as you can to hit your goal! This is going to be from Friday, Dec 26 to 11:59pm Wednesday, Dec 31! Go go go!

I need to read 11 books to hit my "revised goal" of 200. That's more than a book a day for the next week! Eep. Pretty sure there's no chance of that happening! I'm interested to count how many full-length books I read vs. audiobooks and novellas/short stories.

Good luck everyone!

Karin | 134 comments I'm not sure how much time I'll have to read, but I'm going to try my best to participate.

Dawn Michelle | 3485 comments I have hit my goal but would love to actually hit 75 [which is 9 more books]. NOT sure that will happen, but I sure am going to try. :-)

Karol | 221 comments I'm in! Thanks for organizing, Elyse.

message 5: by Charleen (new)

Charleen (charleenlynette) | 1688 comments I've already met my goal, and I'm doing the Bout of Books read-a-thon the week of January 5th (and don't want to burn myself out before that starts).

But I did just start a re-read of The Stand which I'd like to finish by the end of the year if possible, and before Bout of Books for sure.

I'm currently on page 195/1173. So I need to read 163 pages/day to finish before the new year. I'm still with my family so I don't know how much reading I'll get done these next couple days, but hopefully next week will be smooth sailing.

Annie | 424 comments I'm in! Not even close to my goal but looking forward to curling up with a pile of books after all the busyness these past few weeks.

JanB | 980 comments I can pretty much guarantee that if there's a readathon I will be out of town or with family :) We're having a delayed Christmas with the kids (we have to share time w in-laws). But before they arrive I'm going to push through my current 2 books to make my goal of 75. have fun!

Ran errands all day and did some cleaning so I'm now ready to buckle down and read like crazy! I'm currently listening to A Pleasure to Burn: Fahrenheit 451 Stories. I have about 4 hours left on that so I'm hoping to finish up on my car rides to/from work next Monday-Wednesday so that's pushed to the wayside for the weekend. I'm about 25% through The Magician's Lie and I have Rogues that's due back to the library before the end of the year. Hoping to finish both of those by tomorrow.

Karol | 221 comments I read a whole book on the 26th: The D.A. Calls It Murder by Erle Stanley Gardner. I picked this up at a yard sale a long time ago and assumed it was a Perry Mason novel . . . but I didn't realize Gardner had written other series as well. This one was older than the Perry Mason series, and still quite good. The main character, instead of being a defense attorney, was the district attorney, Douglas Selby. Very good and fast-moving story.

Now, I think I am moving to Agatha Christie for the remainder of the marathon. Hoping to still get through 1 or 2 of hers before the end of the year.

message 10: by Annie (new)

Annie | 424 comments Read through 214 pages of A Man Called Ove yesterday. Should finish it today and then move on to the next book.

I finished The Magician's Lie this morning. Decided to save Rogues until next year as it's over 800 pages and will not help me with my goal! Lol. Going to read Ajax Penumbra 1969 and The Curious Case of the Copper Corpse today and shop for a new TV! Haven't decided what the next book will be after those novellas yet. Probably Always, Forever.

message 12: by Charleen (new)

Charleen (charleenlynette) | 1688 comments 378/1173 of The Stand.
199 pages/day to finish.

I'm falling behind my pace... but I'm back at home now, so that should make it easier.

I lost quite a few hours by sleeping late this morning but I desperately needed it! The only thing on my to-do list today is READ! Read the 2 novellas yesterday and am 60% through Always, Forever. My count will be 194 once I finish this one.

message 14: by Annie (new)

Annie | 424 comments Ouch! Lost a whole day yesterday! I should be able to put a few hours aside today just for reading.

message 15: by Karol (last edited Dec 29, 2014 02:54AM) (new)

Karol | 221 comments I got a good bit of reading in on Saturday, and just a bit on Sunday to finish a book: The Secret Adversary by Agatha Christie.

Now, on to The Murder of Roger Ackroyd, which I hope to finish by the end of the year! (Despite having to work long hours the first part of this week).

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) | 954 comments I am 10 books ahead of schedule lol. So any books read in the next couple of days is a bonus to me x

I finished Always, Forever yesterday and am almost finished with The Undertaker's Daughter. Working extended hours for the next 3 days so I've got limited reading time! :(

I was really hoping to play with you guys but it's not looking good. I have 3 books I really want to finish in the next two days. I might have to read with one eye open tonight if I have a chance in getting this done in 51 hours....eeeek!

message 19: by Annie (new)

Annie | 424 comments Andrea, lol! I'm right there with you. My days have been busy with the unexpected lately. I'm so glad there are still two days left!

I finished The Undertaker's Daughter and began The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket. Almost done listening to A Pleasure to Burn: Fahrenheit 451 Stories. Going to round the year by cleaning out some classics that are burdening my Kindle. :)

message 21: by Charleen (new)

Charleen (charleenlynette) | 1688 comments 678/1173 of The Stand.
248 pages/day to finish.

That pages/day number keeps getting bigger and bigger... but I have been making progress cleaning house (trying to get organized before the influx of baby stuff) so I guess I have a good excuse.

Elyse, can you read some books for me??? Hahaha

Charleen, I remember the end of the Stand going crazy fast. I totally think you can pull it off!

message 23: by Dawn Michelle (new)

Dawn Michelle | 3485 comments I finished the Mitford Book and am reading a short story by John Connolly that is TOTALLY creeping me out so am saving the rest of it for the morning. And then I have two novellas by Jodi Picoult. I think I can get all that in. :-)

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) | 8829 comments Mod
I've got to finish 3 books today; The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket, The Wanderer in Unknown Realms, and Ethan Frome and I will complete my goal of 200 books read for 2014. *phew*

message 25: by Charleen (new)

Charleen (charleenlynette) | 1688 comments I have 222 pages left in The Stand, and about eight hours left before our NYE festivities start. But I also have general cleaning/tidying to do before people get here, so... we'll see.

message 26: by Karol (new)

Karol | 221 comments I accomplished what I hoped to! Finished reading The Murder of Roger Ackroyd by Agatha Christie. That gives me three for the read-a-thon!

message 27: by Dawn Michelle (new)

Dawn Michelle | 3485 comments Well being gone from the house all day yesterday put a HUGE crimp in my reading. Going to read all afternoon and into the night to try and get the last three novellas read.

YAY Kay for getting your goal done!!

message 28: by Annie (new)

Annie | 424 comments Didn't get to finish any books, but I did make a dent in a few. Onward to new challenges in 2015!
