Renee (elenarenee) This used to be a wonderful group. It has now become an extention of Jaohannna and her sqaud. The discussions are no longer a focus.

Johanna has selected her friends to run this group. She has ostracized many members. Johanna I think her disrespect for this group is disgusting. Long live the Queen of mean. Moderators should have been voted on, Rules changes shoule have been voted on. I

Cheryl (cherylllr) Moderators def. should have been voted on, if there were enough volunteers. Moderating is usually more work than anyone wants to do. Usually it's seen as a thankless volunteer job.

I haven't noticed any change; I still enjoy the group discussions. Do you have specific complaints? I'm curious about whether I agree with you or not.

I do agree in principle that I would prefer a group that focuses on discussions rather than on challenges. I do belong to a couple of others that I like... would you like to know what they are, or do you have other groups that you'd like to recommend to us that aren't satisfied here?

Phrodrick slowed his growing backlog | 348 comments I am new enough here to not know what is used to be.
The challenges were of interest until they weren't. Hardly seems anyone cares if I challenge or not.
When I can I join or create buddie reads and that does not seem to create a problem with the moderators.
Absent some examples there is no reason for me to take sides, much less take up arms.

I have joined and dropped memberships enough to say no one cares and that is if they notice. I got kicked once (so far) but there are enough 100s of groups and the ability to create yourown,

I don't know either what it used to be, but I don't have the feeling that this group it's only focused on challenges. Personally I don't like them, mostly because I'm a student and don't have enough time to read that much, though I get to read the 3 reads of the month. I enjoy reading what other people thought while reading it (plus I get missing details), also I like sharing my views...
To be honest, I really like the idea of discussion groups more focused, but I don't think you chose the right words to express it. There was no need to attack a person like that, mostly because, as Cheryl said, they are volunteers and they work more than we actually see.
Why don't you try to engage some focused discussion in spoiler chats? It's not necessary to be a moderator to start a conversation.

Forgive me for being a tender on this. I would like to confirm I am not the "you" your reply suggests.

Joanna Loves Reading (joannalovesreading) Hello Renee,

We have a Feedback thread and Suggestion Boxthread. Constructive criticism is welcome, personal attacks are not. This is in our group rules, which are very brief. You can find them in the Updates thread.

I would address that I did not select friends to help moderate. There was a call for volunteers about a year ago in the feedback thread. We discussed adding volunteers there.

Finally, I encourage supporting each other and being uplifting. GR has always been for me a safe zone, escape, happy place. I think that is the case for many on here. Consistent negativity and attacks bring people down, particularly at a time when our personal and mental wellbeing’s are more vulnerable.

Take care all!

Luvtoread (Trying to catch up) | 8 comments Well said, Joanna! I have no idea what Renee was speaking of in her comments but it certainly sounded aggressive to me and makes me sad when people lash out at others especially when this is such an enjoyable outlet for so many to get away from their day to day problems or worries. Unfortunately, I see many people who are rude or critical especially in some of the games when someone makes a silly mistake (harmless) but there are a few people who wilI call them out on it in an unkind way and that frustrates me because I think it sometimes intimates new members and it takes the joy away from something that should be lighthearted and carefree! Phew! I just need to get that off my chest, LoL!! There are so many wonderful venues to Goodreads that it's a shame when some people attack others, they should just move on to something else or move out to somewhere else! With that said, I am sorry Joanna that you were attacked verbally when volunteering your precious time and efforts so other people can enjoy themselves. I truly hope that you weren't too affected by the caustic remarks and hope you will continue on with the great job you and others do so well. Thank you!!

Renee (elenarenee) Johanna i have just gone through the feedback thread, You state you were not seeing eye to eye with the other moderator so you selected another. This is verified by Marco in message 99.

Your memory seems to be faulty. Please give the number of any posts you asked for volunteers. I choose at this point to believe i missed these posts.Feel free to prove me right.

Right now all the moderators came from the challenges. This has killed the discussions. .

message 9: by Betsy (new)

Betsy | 930 comments A call out for interest in volunteers for moderating can be seen in Message 134 in the Moderator Support & Feedback thread.

Renee, I came directly from the BOTM discussions and engage with the books that I am reading or have read. I have tried to pose some questions that I find genuinely of interest, and there has been some lovely moments.

Goodreads is a place for sharing the love of reading together, not a place to pick on people. If you feel there is a lack in discussion, as Cristina said, please bring your thoughts to the conversation of that book. But personally attacking members is not creative nor constructive criticism.

Happy ready everyone!

💕 Take care of yourself, Joanna! 💕

Tr1sha | 626 comments I am very sad to see any disagreements within the group. Whatever our individual views, at this time particularly I think we all have more than enough to worry about. Goodreads is a place that many of us use to escape reality for a while & to “meet” friends while isolated in our real lives. Perhaps we could all try to unite, support each other, & forgive & forget any misunderstandings. Stay safe, everyone.

Renee (elenarenee) Thank you I missed that post. I do see where Johanna asked for moderators. I also saw that you Betsey have added comments to the discussions.

The discussions need a moderator. I hope its not too late.

I just wish that the group had input. That has not happened. But as my husb told me yesterday the only place I can expect Justice is in my courtroom

Joanna Loves Reading (joannalovesreading) Archiving and closing this thread. Further discussion about the group can occur in the Feedback thread or Suggestion Box thread.

The input and consideration is appreciative. I hope we can have productive conversations.

Thanks all! Take care!
