I just finished the first section. This book is not particularly well written. It could do with more showing instead of telling. However, vampires in the ocean is really fun and I am really flying through the story.
So far I'm really loving the premise and I am absolutely all about the characters. I think it's a nice nod to Stoker but it also kind of hints at the way that life continued on after for all the original characters of Dracula. Really excited to see where it goes.
OK, so I'm slightly disappointed in how fast the vampire twist was revealed, I kinda wish they had saved that for at least a little while. But maybe that just means more is to come? There might be a bigger twist headed our way.
I like the characters well enough, Lucy is my favorite so far. I hope we get more from her POV as this goes on. LOVE LOVE LOVE that Margaret Brown is a character. If anyone doesn't know her story, look her up. She tried to get her lifeboat go back for Titanic survivors IRL. I'm also digging the references to real people/things in the book.
On a sadder note, it's April 15th as I post this :(

Just joined the group, so I'm probably too late to get in on this month due to shipping, but this sounds like an interesting book. I may risk spoiling myself and see if you guys thought it was worthwhile once you were done.
I just got the ebook thru my library, so I started reading it right away! I am flying and I am really enjoying it! I was also surprised that the vampires showed up so quickly. Dale, the "stoker" on the Titanic, (I know that this was a real job, but found it fun that they mentioned a "stoker" in a vampire book :) was such a short lived character. I thought he would be a main character...maybe he still will be? We never actually read that he died. I agree that I want to read more about Lucy!
Finally, I really liked the twist about the vampires in the water instead of sharks. Fun idea that I haven't seen in other vampire stories.
I totally missed the 'stoker' thing LOL

Really quick I want to say that I hope you all are staying safe and healthy during this time If you can't go out to your library or bookstore to pick this up, please do not worry!!! We have a new book each month, so you can always jump back in for May (you can see which book we'll be reading on the group's home page).
Regarding Carpathia, when we picked this book in December of 2019, I did see that it looked like this would mostly be available via audiobook or used copy. Obviously none of us had any idea that COVID-19 would be a thing, let alone that is would shut down entire cities and countries. That being said, if you can't find a used bookstore to ship this book (Amazon won't right now, unfortunately), the audiobook is on Audible! You can get a free 30-Day trial and you'll definitely have the book finished by then!
Once again, if you have to skip this month, I totally understand. I'll still be reading this and sharing my thoughts for anyone interested.
Stay safe, everyone <3
