There was this book that my grade school teacher used to read to me. The year would be somewhere between 2008-10. It was about a group of kids who would go to different dimensions from this secret portal that was in one of the guy's house. I don't remember what they did after going into the portal but there was a rule about not bringing any of the objects.

It sounds familar to me, the book I'm talking about is not on goodreads though. It's a book about time travel. With 3 kids using a portal to travel in time, and they aren't allowed to bring objects. The book that I read didn't have time travelling in it.
Sounds a lot like the "Secrets of Droon" series. The first book is called "The Hidden Stairs and the Magic Carpet" by Tony Abbott. I used to love these books, and I forgot all about them. Even if this is or isn't your book, thanks for reminding me of this book series! :)
