Thriller, quote of Colley Cibber first page, Beginning: two men break into a building

Dear all,

I am looking for a book I found around half a year ago. I can't remember the plot, I think it began with two men breaking into a building or house. I think the cover was red, but I am not sure anymore.

What I do remember is that there was a quote of Colley Cibber before the story began: "Oh! How many torments lie in the small circle of a wedding ring!"

Maybe that sounds familiar to some of you? I am deeply grateful for any clue you have!
