HOW IT WORKS:
- Everyone starts with a book that has a title or main character or author's first name or last name or is set in a place that starts with the letter "A"
- The next book read must start with the last letter of the title or main character or author's first name or last name or setting of the previous book.
THE RULES:
- No need to sign up just join in😊
- The books read can be MG, YA, NA, or adult.
- The books can be any genre.
- There's no time limit, take however long you like!
*Credit to Jessica for the idea❤*

Example:
Book 1: Defender of the Realm's main character is Alfie.
Book 2: The Westing Game's author's first name is Ellen.
Book 3: Neverwhere's title starts with N
Book 4: (would be a book that has a title or main character or author's first name or last name or setting that starts with the letter E)

and question: do we have to finish one book in order to move on to the next? only curious because i was figuring out what books i wanted to start with and one of them is 1153 pages. which of course i can always change books (which might be wiser because that is a daunting amount of pages).

@Jessica it would make more sense if you finished 1 book before starting the next but 1100+ page book sounds crazy good luck! It’d be fine if you decide to read the first and second book in your book chain at the same time though that’d still be ok.
@Ilsen it’s an individual thing so you do it alone with your own book choices. I thought that would be more appropriate considering people won’t be able to go to their local libraries and get new books or might not be able to buy books now so I’ve tailored all the rules to make it hopefully wide enough to encompass most the books people already own.
Making it a team thing is actually a great idea I never thought of that. It’s not something we can do now though I’d have to have pre-organised it for sign ups and team assignments but maybe that’s something I can incorporate into the August challenge! I’m still planning on hosting it this year but I need to mix it up from the activities we did for it last year. Man, I really need to start organising it and the Choose Your Own Adventure challenge which will also be really close to it!
@Elizabeth join in whenever you can! It’s a challenge without a time limit so it’ll run on even after the month is over.

Ooh what’s your first book going to be Ilsen? I have no idea for mine. Just for the example I had to scroll through multiple shelf pages to find a book relating to A!

You have a manuscript signed by the author?!?!?! Wow that is cool!! Do you know the author personally? Or you’re just one of the lucky ones who managed to get a signed manuscript?

I’ll figure out my first could books a bit later today!
Also I like this as it will help me (hopefully) read some of the stuff at my house.
Anyone else miss the library like a ridiculous amount?

@Mel @Jessica The whole point of the challenge is to help you read the books you already have so I’ll be happy if that works out!
@Ilsen why does your library have 21 COPIES of the same book?!?!?!? If it was like 4 or 5 that would be acceptable but TWENTY ONE😂😂
Also that’s cool you managed to get a manuscript from her then!! Meeting authors you know and love is such an awesome experience.

Also I officially started Book 1: Capturing the Devil: Main character is Audrey Rose

Asho ends in O. Read Imperium by Nickolas Olivio. His last name started with O. ( ugh, ends with O again too!)
Read Miao Dao by Joyce Carol Oates. Oates started with O and ends with S. Read a book by Spencer Maxwell. (A galaxy divided)
Spencer starts with s ends with r. Read Impact Point by Simon Rosser. R on both ends!

I finished Capturing the Devil: Main character is Audrey Rose Wadsworth
The last letter starts with an H so I’m going to start Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows for my next one.

😂😂Imagine if you have to keep going on this chain of O books continuously!

😱I love the last Harry Potter book!! It's one of the few I own from the series so I've reread it a lot. It's also one of the only books I own that is in an absolutely terrible condition it's well thumbed with a very broken spine and a totally ruined cover because I may have sat on it a few times (don't ask😂) but despite that I actually love how battered and old it looks. It really adds to that classic old treasured book vibe.

Ugh!🤔

Ilsen wrote: "Yes I’m reading it for homework! This used to be my favorite but the more I thought about it, Half Blood Prince was my absolute favorite. I’m only 40 pages into it!"
Oh man I wiiiiiish my homework was to read an awesome book like that. Or even a terrible book but nope I have 4 essays to write for coursework and exams coming up in 3 weeks that they just let us know about today. I am sooooooo STRESSED I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I'M DOING SOMEONE PLEASE SAVE ME😭

The next one I finished was Breakfast at Tiffany's.
Connection: Author is J.K. Rowling. The main character's name in Breakfast at Tiffany's is Holly Golightly which the last name starts with the letter G.
Now I am going to start Aru Shah and the End of Time as Breakfast at Tiffany's ends with an S and the last name of the main character starts with an S.
Sorry if I sound like I'm repeating myself

now i am about the start the monstrosity that is The Stand by stephen king. which also means that the song of achilles will be the only book i finish for this challenge in april😂
😂it’s ok Jessica it’s still one more book than me. If I had more time I’d take part in this challenge but I’m super swamped with exam revision although I have been reading a book lately😱 it’s distracting though, I should really stop.
What did you think of The Song of Achilles? Enjoy it?

and i really enjoyed it! it was a really good book

@Jessica that’s so accurate😂 I spent so much time yesterday reading this book and even finished it when I should’ve been working. I think it’s like reverse psychology where if someone says we can’t read because we’re busy and got work to do then we want to and if someone says we can because we’re free then we don’t want to.

Also I officially finished two books and it was different from how I planned. I’m still using the letter S at the end for Breakfast at Tiffany’s but instead of using Aru Shah and the End of Time, I have read Mirage by Somaiya Daud and I also read On the Come Up by Angie Thomas.
Breakfast at Tiffany’s: Title ends with S
Mirage: Author’s first name starts with S - Somaiya Daud
Mirage: Author’s first name ends with A - Somaiya Daud
On the Come Up: Author’s first name starts with A - Angie Thomas
My next reads I’m aiming for is to finish Aru Shah and the End of Time and Caraval and start One of Us is Lyingg and A Heart So Fierce and Broken. Wish me luck that I finish everything by April 30.

One of Us is Lying was an ok book! Not the best murder mystery I’ve ever read but it was a good read. How was On the Come Up? I’ve read a bit of the beginning but I feel like it’s not going to be that great so I didn’t bother considering reading it all

Overall I finished 7 books in April and I finished one on May 1st at like 4:00 am (I tried). I read a lot of pages and beat my goal from last year so I’m pretty proud.
On the Come Up: Author’s last name ends with S - Angie Thomas
Caraval: Main character’s first name starts with S - Scarlett Dragna
Caraval: Main character’s last name ends with A
One of Us is Lying: Main character’s first name starts with A - Addy Prentiss
One of Us is Lying: Author’s last name ends with S - Karen McManus
Aru Shah and the End of Time: Main character’s last name starts with S - Aru Shah
I’m still trying to figure out my TBR because I had everything planned but then this challenge continued and I didn’t take that into account. Unless we start over from A again XD
You can start again from A if you like! But you’d have a cooler and longer chain if you continued from where you are now.
I really wanted to read The Hate U Give just so I could watch the movie but I heard it’s kinda overrated and not as great as it looks so it’s been on my TBR for ages and I’m not sure if I’ll ever get round to it...

Also I figured I could but since technically I finished Aru Shah in May, I used that as my beginning with the letter A read XD So I just continued. Currently I’m reading The Crowns of Croswald by D.E. Night.
Aru Shah and the End of Time: Author’s name ends with the letter I - Roshani Chokshi
The Crowns of Croswald: Main character’s first name starts with I - Ivy Lovely
Also I just realized you could also use setting. I’m a dumbass XD

So I had a slight change after I realized a mistake in the chain 🙃 So I changed my next read so it could fit.
The Crowns of Croswald: Title ends with a D
Lair of Dreams: Main character’s last name starts with a D - Henry DuBois
Pretty sure I added Crowns of Croswald to my TBR so one day I will maybe probably read it😂 Also your chain is getting pretty long now!

Asho ends in O. Read Imperium by Nickolas Olivio. His last name started with O. (..."
I read Southern Secrets by Abel Ozuna so now I need to find an A!
