This thread is a non-spoiler thread that discusses the first two books of George Eliot's Adam Bede. You are welcome to discuss the author in this section.

I am looking at starting this one in May. I put the book on my nightstand already for a reminder.

I will probably start this book at the end of this week.

I will not be able to start this book anytime soon since I am reading 3 books and can't take on another right now. I don't know if anyone else wanted to read it.

I still have our Pride and Prejudice read that I could move onto next and come back to Adam Bede in June if that is better?

Mizzou | 177 comments A couple of details about that book have stuck with me over time....one was the woman preacher. That seemed whatever the opposite of anachronistic is. The other was the feeling that Adam has towards his work, that of the true honest workman, for his tools and for his skills. I've never run into anything else along the lines but for once. That was when I read Primo Levi's book, The Monkey;s Wrench.

I still so want to read this. Now that I returned my library books, I can try to get to it after our September read.
