Welcome to Sorcery of Thorns Buddy Read Discussion thread! This thread officially opens on April 12th and anyone can join at any time. Please keep in mind that spoilers are allowed in this thread but only up to the group's current reading place. Do not spoil the book if you've read further than the group. Any extra days can be used to catch up!

I read the first three chapters and I find it cool how the library has secret passageways! And the idea that books are alive kind of reminds me of the some of the books present at Hogwarts library.

I'm also wondering why the Director allowed her to grow up in the library from the beginning, rather than taking her to an orphanage.

Nathaniel seems like an interesting character so far :D

Just finished chapter 6 and I'm curious to learn more about the servant (view spoiler)[ it's interesting how he has a "demonic" nature in him (hide spoiler)] and about Nathaniel (view spoiler)[specifically if he killed the Director and let the grimoire loose (hide spoiler)].

I'm all caught up! I'm really enjoying this so far. Nathaniel is a really interesting character I think, I want to know more about who he is and his relationship with the servant.

Up to chapter 12: Is it just me or is Elisabeth painfully naive?

I'm a little behind. I didn't read yesterday so I read up to chapter 9 today. I'll probably catch up tomorrow!

And yes! I find her very naive. Its probably because she was sheltered in the library most of her life. I find it funny how she believes everything Nathaniel says when he's teasing.

I'm currently reading chapter 14 and I just find it hilarious how the doctor claims that women who read novels commonly get an inflammation of the brain! Poor Elisabeth, she's now viewed as mad...

On chapter 19 and I find it funny how Silas is now pretending to be cat and Elisabeth calls him Sir Fluffington 😂

Just finished chapter 20 and Nathaniel's backstory is so tragic...

Despite learning the new information about Silas, I like how Elisabeth and Silas are working together now.

I may have sped ahead and finished it when I couldn't sleep... Oops!

I rolled my eyes so hard when the Dr said about women reading causes illness, typical haha.

I liked that we got more about Nathaniel's back story, I like his character.

Rest of the book:(view spoiler)[ I liked Elisabeth as the main character but she also annoyed me a bit. I don't know if it was her naiveté or if she seemed a little bit ignorant of the world around her, but I felt myself sighing at much of the stuff she said.

My favourite character was Silas. I liked how he knew what he was and fully owned up to it, like he didn't try to hide from his nature. But, he also fought it to stay loyal to Nathaniel and Elisabeth in the end.

I think one of my favourite bits of the whole book was when Elisaneth set all the Grimoires free so they could fight to save the library. It gave me all the warm and fuzzies. (hide spoiler)]

I finished the book! And I agree, a part of me was a little annoyed by Elisabeth. I do like how she was able to get the Grimoires to protect the library.

Silas was amazing! The ending was so bittersweet. I liked how he protected them in the end, but it's sad how he was gone and never got the recognition of being the hero.

I do wish the author expanded on the epilogue, I would've liked to see a reunion between Silas and Elisabeth and Nathaniel. I'm not sure if the candles going out meant that he responded to Silas as opposed to his true name?
