This was a horror short story in a collection of short stories. The narrator is a blind man whose guest is a panicked man who claims he's been hunted for a long time by a creature that is never described. Though - SPOILERS - at the end of the story, the blind man hears the approach of the creature - some shuffling sound with, I think claws - and the other man screams and... and I don't remember the ending, but I do remember really loving the story. I read it in the mid-80s, I think.
