SOLVED. Video game where guy is paid to play a video game that actually controls the war?? [s]

I once read half of this book where this guy, i think, was paid to test out a new video game, but the video game actually was controls for a war somewhere. it seemed like he was just playing a cool new video game, but he was actually in control of what happens in the war. i THINK this is what happened. i remember it was YA, but this is all i can remember. if someone has any idea, that would be very helpful!

I think it might be Playing Tyler by T.L. Costa.
