Lillian | 30 comments I picked this book up at a coffee shop maybe four or five years ago and didn’t finish it. Judging from the cover it was already at least 15 years old. The story is centered around two boys. The first boy is about five or six when the book starts. He tries to ‘run away’ and takes a cookie/biscuit and puts it in his pocket. While he is out he is grabbed by a group of other, rather dirty children. This is when we meet the second boy, who is a changling. The changling boy takes boy #1’s appearance and goes back to the parents. He apologizes to the mom for taking the cookie/biscuit and the mom sort of laughs and just hugs him. I don’t remember the rest that I read very well. Boy #2 can play the piano very well, and as boy #1 had had no lessons he is considered a prodigy. Boy #2 remembers playing piano with someone, maybe his teacher, urging him on in German. Boy #1 got some sort of magical powers now that he’d become a changling. At one point, maybe 10 years after he is taken, he heals a deer that was hit by a car. The woman sees him, and then sees Boy #2 at one of his piano performances and mentions seeing a younger version of him healing a deer she’d hit. The parents dismiss it but Boy #2 knows what it is. I know at one point soon after he is taken Boy #1 wakes up in the clearing he’s staying in with the other changlings and two of the others are ‘wrestling under a blanket’ with a boy on top and a girl on bottom. Boy #1 also tries smoking a cigarette and/or watches the other changlings smoke. I don’t remember any names, except a girl who almost sleeps with Boy #2, I think her name was Sara or something similar.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!
