There is no justification for Charlie letting Sonia be captured and nearly sold to human traffickers. Yes, he could have saved a bunch of other victims in the process, but why not call in the authorities. It was way too risky and she was just lucky to come out of it alive.
Sonia truly trusted Charlie and had no idea of his need to be the White Knight and the Hero would put her life at risk and then he would not even be there to back her up. There was nothing that would justify his desertion on her. I want to believe he thought she wasn't seriously at risk, but I just don't believe it. He assumed she could take care of herself and that she couldn't was her fault, not his.
How could he not have known she was in such a dangerous situation. There is absolutely no excuse or way to justify what he did. He wanted to get the bad guy no matter who he hurt.
It didn’t matter if he thought she could take care of herself. When you’re partnered with someone, it’s your job to know, not assume. He didn’t just “drop the ball” or “make a mistake;” he was derelict in his duty and was indirectly responsible for her not being able to have children going forward. Charlie was all ego and it went beyond being the “white knight.” He needed the personal praise and adoration. Even his gesture at the end to save Sonia was more about him than her.
