SOLVED. Australian novel about an abandoned kitten from the cat's perspective, possibly 1970s

Here's what I remember about the book, which I believe is from the 70s or possibly early 80s:

- A kitten is abandoned by a family at a holiday home on the East coast of Australia. He nearly dies but then the owner or new tenant comes and adopts him.

- The new owner trains the kitten, including toilet training by rubbing his nose in his poop.

- It is written from the cat's perspective.

This is what I think I remember about the book:

- They eat Moreton Bay Bugs at some stage.

- The cat gets jealous of the owner's new girlfriend.

- Possible bright pink cover? Not sure about this one.
