I am going to start a serious read of George, Elio & Linda's super sweet new book. I want everyone to join in. It will be slow, so I suspect you could go into a bookstore & flop on the floor and do the reading. So starting Jan 1st to 9th read the Ancient History part, pages 1 to 27. Come back on the Jan. 10th & 11th for your thoughts, observations and theories to how it relates to the tale as a whole. I hope I am not the only one who wants to do it, but someone has to try.

This sounds great. I have the book but have pretty much just looked at the pictures. LOL!

Great idea Stephen, with books like these of Ice & Fire, a shared reading is a much more enriching experience!

Yes because there is so much there. Plus I want to do a " What part of the read would you "fanfic " type questions.
Same as Rebecca, I'm halfway through but count me in. I'm reading this one slowly anyway, since I can't take it with me when I leave home (it's huge).
I haven't started yet, but I'm definitely in! I also like the idea of reading this slowly - it will really allow me to let the history and the ideas sink in. Great idea!

I was doing a little background re-read of the last chapter in A Feast for Crows when I went to Linda and Elio's wiki site to do a little background on Marwyn. Does it not look like Marwyn is carrying The World of Ice & Fire: The Untold History of Westeros and the Game of Thrones?http://awoiaf.westeros.org/images/b/b...

Does it not look like M..."It kinda does. That's one of the things I love about this book, about its marvelous edition, that it feels like a real Westerosi book written by a Maester of the Citadel.

Okay I re edited the topic tag so it would be clearer. Never hurts to add information. It is my first time starting a topic so I am a bit of a newbie. I love the illustrations too. I really want a van with the illustration on pg 16 painted on the side.

So many other immediate reading goals, but I did get the book for Christmas and have barely cracked it open so far. I'll try to participate if I can. Thanks for suggesting it!
I had a feeling that a lot of people would get it as a gift, so I wanted to wait until Jan to start. Glad there so many people willing to have a go.

I was sad to see a corner was slightly damaged when the book arrived :( I mean it's one of those things you can't really notice unless you know it's there. But I know it's there. And I can never NOT know...
Mine is still in great condition so far, but I have small kids so it's going to be a challenge to keep it that way unless I lock it away somewhere.

I thinks it's a great idea especially since my hubby gave me a copy for Xmas as I was mourning the end of the series which I finished reading over the summer. I won't even have to leave the house or wait for UPS to deliver :).
I received my copy!! It's so pretty. I hope I can't wait for the group read through.
