Beneath a Scarlet Sky 6. Though considered historical fiction, this book is based on a true story of Pino's WWII experiences.

Robin | 39 comments There was supposed to be more to this question like how realistic it was or something to that extent

I felt like some of it seemed unrealistic because with all the chances Pino took and all the close calls he had he always seemed to come out okay or just fine but this book is based on real life stories of him so I guess it's possible to just be very fortunate to have survived so many scary situations and circumstances during this timeframe.

Cindy | 522 comments So I read this book a couple of years ago and I will admit I didn't reread it. I looked back at my review and I said I thought this book would have been better as non-fiction. I would like to know if he just invented dialogue and characters' feelings, or did he create events and rearrange chronology to make a novel that worked?

Chelsea | 562 comments I felt it lacked a bit in the story part at times and he focused so much on "getting all the facts in" at times that made it drag. specifically during the times he drove Gen. Leyers around. With historical fiction, I feel the story needs to sing more than the facts. The history part is the backdrop, but not the main focus.

It did feel real to me though knowing these events were based on facts. Maybe embellished a bit, but real.

Angela (angeladecker814) | 104 comments It's a true story, so I'd describe it as more extraordinary rather than unrealistic. It's unfortunate that it had to be categorized as historical fiction, but given that it was made to read like a novel and they did have to fill in some gaps, it can't be straight nonfiction, so that makes sense.

Angela (angeladecker814) | 104 comments I don't think he would rearrange things. That would just be extra confusing, especially for those who do know their WW2 history, and not add to the story.
