SOLVED. YA Series where kids discover they have powers but things go poorly for them

This was series of book. I remember reading 2 of the novels (actually listen to it, it was audiobooks.) I read it somewhere between 2016-18. I might be misremembering some of the details.

It was a modern day setting. It was a group of friends that discovered they had powers. I remember one kid was excited to have super powers. But the kids themselves were unsure how to handle this new responsibilities. A lot of bad things seem to happen to them.
