contemporary fiction - mentions movie "schindler's list" but it is made about another tragedy, not holocaust?

I think I read this recently--in the last year or so. The only detail I can remember is that in this world, which is almost exactly like ours, there had been some sort of tragedy, and the movie "schindler's list" was made, and there's still a scene with a little girl in a red coat, but it isn't because of the Holocaust but some other tragedy. I think it was literary fiction, not science fiction. Help?? Thanks!!
