Lore and Haley

Kira nodds, looking from her father to Adrian. It made sense, that they would have to leave that night, but that didn't mean she had to like it.
Max reads on, the story weaving a picture in his mind. It was a good book, and must have cost a lot. He thinks once again of the coat, faltering slightly over his words, then forces himself to focus on the story. He would give the jacket to Echo once she fell asleep.
((Not a clue. I was just planning on going with it and seeing how it all turned out.))

Kira nodds, thinking back to the last time she had seen him. He was lower ranking, but a good friend of her father. That was all she could really remember of him.
Max reads on, stopping at the end of the fourth chapter. He folds the corner down and shuts the book. "You should go to sleep now." He told Echo softly.

Kira nodds the asks, "How long will we have to stay away?"
"Of course I will." Max tucks the book into his bag, then wrapped his arm around Echo. He leaned his head onto hers.

Kira nodds, then looks down. This was not how she'd planned to spend her night.
Max frowns slightly at how close she snuggled. Not that he didn't want her to, but it made it hard to take the coat off without waking her.

Kira hugs Adrian. "I know. Nothing to it." She says.
Max makes sure she was asleep, then slips out of the jacket, freezing for a moment to see if she would wake up.

Max let out a small sigh and put it back on. He'd just have to wait for a little longer before trying again.

"Nope." She answers just as softly. "We'll ask in a minute."
"Why would I do that?" Max says, wrapping his arms around her and leaning his head back.

Kira watches, nodding slightly when she saw the money. She'd always known about the safe, but never knew what it held. Now she knew.
Max started to protest, then just said, "Go back to sleep."

Kira looks at the money in her hands, then back up at her father. She says nothing, tucking the money into the pocket of her jacket.
"I won't." He says, his lie sounding obvious to his own ears. He could only hope she didn't hear it.

"Wait. Where do we go?" Kira asked.
"I'd never lie to you." Max said, tightening his arms slightly around her.

Kira nodds, mapping it in her head. Unfortunitely, she had zero direction skill and would probably get lost on the way there. Or forget the address. Or something.
"Excuse me?" Max said, looking down at her. "I wasn't under the impression that I was a lion."

Kira watches silently, peering over Adrian's shoulder to see the map.
"And how would you know what a lion lies like?" Max teases.

"I will if you will." Max says.

This time, Max waits for a few minutes after her breathing had evened out and she'd grown still. He was more careful when he took the coat off, inching it off instead of just taking it off.

Max freezes, the jacket half off, until she was silent again. After another minute, he slowly slips the coat the rest of the way off.

With a triumphant grin, Max carefully lays the jacket over Echo.

Max let out a sigh, then leaned his head back and closed his eyes. Quickly realizing that he wouldn't be able to fall asleep, he turned his head to look at the people who walked by their alley.

Max glared at the people as they walked by, his arms unconsiously tightening around Echo protectivly.

Max eventually feels himself slipping away, his head bobbing up and down.

A car honks in the street, yanking Max out of his half sleep. He sighs slightly and looked at the passing cars.

Max tightens his arms around her slightly. "It's ok. Go back to sleep." He said softly.

"Sing? Me?" Max said, surprised. He hadn't sung since he was a child, seeing no real reason to.

"Ok." Max said, thinking back to the songs that he used to sing. After a moment, he chose one and began singing softly.

Max keeps singing, and he smiles slightly when he saw all the odd looks coming from the people who were walking past the alley.

Max, realizing that Echo was asleep, let his voice drop off.

Max stares at the dirty floor of the alley.

Max stayed awake, unable to sleep.

Max rubbed his hands up and down her arm softly, trying to calm her. "Shh..." He says softly. "It's alright."

Max tightens his arms around Echo protectively, relaxing slightly when he saw it was the couple who gave them the money. But only slightly.

Max carefully starts shaking her shoulder, trying to wake her. "Nightmare. She gets them sometimes." He explains.

"No." He says. "We just have to wake her." He pulls away slightly, shaking her a little more vigorously.

Max wraps his arms around her, muttering comforting and unimportant words in her ear.

Max stays as he was, though he stopped talking.

Max looks down at her and, after a long pause, he asked softly, "Are you better now?"
((Lol ^.^))

Max looks at her, confused. Then the phrase sinks in and he laughs slightly. "And how am I a lion this time?" He asks.
((Yeah... But there ain't nothing wrong with that...))

Max grinned. "Yeah, and I think it's pretty obvious that I didn't keep that promise." He responded. Then he tightened his arms around her. "And this time I'll make sure you don't go running to the fountain."

Max laughs slightly and said, "Yes, I do. You ain't going nowhere." He sighed and put his chin on her head.

Max looked up in surprise at Echo's voice, just noticing the approaching figures.

Max raises an eyebrow at this, glancing down at Echo. "What say you? Should we let these people stay at our humble home?"

"Max." He said, jerking his chin in their general direction in greeting.

Max nodded in acknowledgement, staring at the two. "Why are you here?" He asked.

Max looks down at Echo, then looks back up. "Well, what'd they think you do?" He asked.

Max shook his head. "That sucks." He said. "But that doesn't explain why you're here."

Kira nodded, a slight smile touching her lips. "What're the odds? Leave it to us to get lost in this sort of situation."

Kira listened to the exchange, then looked up at Adrian. "We're not asking for much." She said to them. "Just a place to stay and then we'll be on our way."

Kira smiled slightly. "That would be much appreciated." She said.
Kira's eyes widen in fear at the thought of either choice. In prison, everyone knew that the authorities tried to break you. Not to mention that all their fellow prisoners would hate their guts, just for being rich while they rotted away in prison. On the streets, they would be no less safe. She turns to Adrian, looking to see how he took the news.
Max described an action packed story, consisting of a person who was part of a rebellion, who was sent to spy on the government. That spy was then used by the government to spy on the rebellion. His love was loyal to the government, but he was loyal to the rebellion. He pauses from reading, trying to wrap his mind around the concept. Then he dove in again.
