Lore and Haley
"Tonight." He answers, looking apologeticly at Kira and Adrian. "The press comes after you in the morning. For now, I've forbiden them to come anywhere near you two, but that won't last."Kira nodds, looking from her father to Adrian. It made sense, that they would have to leave that night, but that didn't mean she had to like it.
Max reads on, the story weaving a picture in his mind. It was a good book, and must have cost a lot. He thinks once again of the coat, faltering slightly over his words, then forces himself to focus on the story. He would give the jacket to Echo once she fell asleep.
((Not a clue. I was just planning on going with it and seeing how it all turned out.))
Kira's father nodds. "Money, for sure. Clothes, probably not. And you'd go to Cody's house. You've met him, haven't you?"Kira nodds, thinking back to the last time she had seen him. He was lower ranking, but a good friend of her father. That was all she could really remember of him.
Max reads on, stopping at the end of the fourth chapter. He folds the corner down and shuts the book. "You should go to sleep now." He told Echo softly.
"Just enough to get you a safe passage. Even the people who hate you will stay silent for enough money." He says.Kira nodds the asks, "How long will we have to stay away?"
"Of course I will." Max tucks the book into his bag, then wrapped his arm around Echo. He leaned his head onto hers.
"You won't have enough. I'll get you some. Just, when they ask for money, don't try to negotiate. Just give them the money." Then he turned to Kira. "However long it takes."Kira nodds, then looks down. This was not how she'd planned to spend her night.
Max frowns slightly at how close she snuggled. Not that he didn't want her to, but it made it hard to take the coat off without waking her.
He walks into his office, grabbing the whiskey and his empty glass and walking back to the living room. He pours himself another glass.Kira hugs Adrian. "I know. Nothing to it." She says.
Max makes sure she was asleep, then slips out of the jacket, freezing for a moment to see if she would wake up.
Kira pulls away, turning to her father. "We'll leave now. There's no sense in waiting."Max let out a small sigh and put it back on. He'd just have to wait for a little longer before trying again.
"Okay." He sets the glass on the table and walks to the kitchen, motioning for them to follow him."Nope." She answers just as softly. "We'll ask in a minute."
"Why would I do that?" Max says, wrapping his arms around her and leaning his head back.
He walks to one of the cabenets, opening it and reveiling a small safe. He quickly punches in the code and opens it. Inside, it was jam packed with money.Kira watches, nodding slightly when she saw the money. She'd always known about the safe, but never knew what it held. Now she knew.
Max started to protest, then just said, "Go back to sleep."
He pulls out a few wads of cash and gives some to Kira and some to Adrian. "That should be more than enough."Kira looks at the money in her hands, then back up at her father. She says nothing, tucking the money into the pocket of her jacket.
"I won't." He says, his lie sounding obvious to his own ears. He could only hope she didn't hear it.
He nodds, accepting his promise. "I'll hold you to that. Now go. The sooner you leave, the further you'll be when they come after you.""Wait. Where do we go?" Kira asked.
"I'd never lie to you." Max said, tightening his arms slightly around her.
"Right. 2485 East Linwood St. That's the address. It's actually quite a ways from here. Go north from here for a few miles until you hit Linwood. Then go east until you hit it."Kira nodds, mapping it in her head. Unfortunitely, she had zero direction skill and would probably get lost on the way there. Or forget the address. Or something.
"Excuse me?" Max said, looking down at her. "I wasn't under the impression that I was a lion."
He nodded, pulling out an Atlas. He ripped out a map of the city, pulling out a pen and marking an x where they were and where they wanted to go. He handed it to Adrian. "There you go."Kira watches silently, peering over Adrian's shoulder to see the map.
"And how would you know what a lion lies like?" Max teases.
Kira looks at the map, nodding. It had them going through the bad part of town, where all the theives and murderers lived. "Let's go.""I will if you will." Max says.
Kira looks at her father, then approaches him to give him a hug. They hadn't hugged since she was little, but now seemed like a good time for one. This time, Max waits for a few minutes after her breathing had evened out and she'd grown still. He was more careful when he took the coat off, inching it off instead of just taking it off.
Kira nodds and pulls away. "See you soon." Without another word, she turns and walks to the door.Max freezes, the jacket half off, until she was silent again. After another minute, he slowly slips the coat the rest of the way off.
Kira walks out the door and smiles at Adrian. "Here we go. You ready?"With a triumphant grin, Max carefully lays the jacket over Echo.
"Let's go." Kira said, walking outside. She took one look around, then realized that they would get lost if she led them. "You know were to go?" She asked Adrian.Max let out a sigh, then leaned his head back and closed his eyes. Quickly realizing that he wouldn't be able to fall asleep, he turned his head to look at the people who walked by their alley.
Kira laughed slightly. "This is gonna be fun, won't it. Um, he said to go north, right? That's that way. I think." Kira pointed, then started walking up the road.Max glared at the people as they walked by, his arms unconsiously tightening around Echo protectivly.
Kira walks on, eventually taking off her heels and walking barefooted. They were going the right way. She hopes.Max eventually feels himself slipping away, his head bobbing up and down.
Kira shook her head and laughed slightly. "I'm fine. I hate shoes anyway." She said.A car honks in the street, yanking Max out of his half sleep. He sighs slightly and looked at the passing cars.
Kira leans into him slightly, flinching when her foot hit a sharp rock. Max tightens his arms around her slightly. "It's ok. Go back to sleep." He said softly.
Kira protests slightly, but in the end gives in. She honestly didn't want to be walking in the streets barefooted."Sing? Me?" Max said, surprised. He hadn't sung since he was a child, seeing no real reason to.
"Yeah." Kira said, then she laughed slightly. "Less than an hour ago we were watching a movie together. Now, we've been accused of murder, and running from the cops.""Ok." Max said, thinking back to the songs that he used to sing. After a moment, he chose one and began singing softly.
"Yeah." She agreed. "Now let me down. I'm perfectly capable of walking on my own."Max keeps singing, and he smiles slightly when he saw all the odd looks coming from the people who were walking past the alley.
"Let me down." Kira repeated, laughing slightly and wiggling to make her hard to hold onto.Max, realizing that Echo was asleep, let his voice drop off.
Kira smiles and stands. "Thank you." Now she says. "Now where do we go?"Max stares at the dirty floor of the alley.
"Yeah." Kira says, looking around for someplace to stay for the night.Max stayed awake, unable to sleep.
Kira nodds. "Seems good to me." She said, starting to walk toward the alley he'd motioned to.Max rubbed his hands up and down her arm softly, trying to calm her. "Shh..." He says softly. "It's alright."
Kira smiles at the two people, an expression that quickly dissapeared when she saw the girl whimpering.Max tightens his arms around Echo protectively, relaxing slightly when he saw it was the couple who gave them the money. But only slightly.
Kira moves to help, stopping when she realized that she had no clue what to do in this situation.Max carefully starts shaking her shoulder, trying to wake her. "Nightmare. She gets them sometimes." He explains.
Kira stays where she was, staring at the violinist thrash and yell."No." He says. "We just have to wake her." He pulls away slightly, shaking her a little more vigorously.
Kira breathed a slight sigh of relief when the girl woke. She didn't like to see her like that.Max wraps his arms around her, muttering comforting and unimportant words in her ear.
Kira leans into him a bit, still staring at the other two. She quickly looks away when she realizes that the girl was trying not to cry.Max stays as he was, though he stopped talking.
Kira looks up in slight surprise at his words. "Yeah, I'm fine." She jerks her chin slightly in the violinists direction. "It's her that needs to be asked." She says softly.Max looks down at her and, after a long pause, he asked softly, "Are you better now?"
((Lol ^.^))
Kira looked up. "Why?" She asks softly. "What are you afraid of?"Max looks at her, confused. Then the phrase sinks in and he laughs slightly. "And how am I a lion this time?" He asks.
((Yeah... But there ain't nothing wrong with that...))
Kira nods, thinking about the girl's music. She remembered the haunting melody, and involintarily shivered. "Yeah, I know what you mean." She mutters back.Max grinned. "Yeah, and I think it's pretty obvious that I didn't keep that promise." He responded. Then he tightened his arms around her. "And this time I'll make sure you don't go running to the fountain."
Kira nods. "That would probably be best." She said, moving slightly toward the pair.Max laughs slightly and said, "Yes, I do. You ain't going nowhere." He sighed and put his chin on her head.
Kira follows him, standing slightly behind him as he went to ask them.Max looked up in surprise at Echo's voice, just noticing the approaching figures.
"Um," Kira said, glancing at Adrian for a moment, then looking back down. "Well, we were sort of wondering if we could stay here for the night?"Max raises an eyebrow at this, glancing down at Echo. "What say you? Should we let these people stay at our humble home?"
Kira smiles slightly, sitting down across from them. "What's your names?" She askes."Max." He said, jerking his chin in their general direction in greeting.
Kira pulls her legs to her chest, looking over at the two. "My name is Kira. It's nice to meet you." She said.Max nodded in acknowledgement, staring at the two. "Why are you here?" He asked.
Kira glanced at Adrian, then looked back at Echo and Max.Max looks down at Echo, then looks back up. "Well, what'd they think you do?" He asked.
Kira stared grimmly at the couple sitting across from them, leaning slightly into Adrian.Max shook his head. "That sucks." He said. "But that doesn't explain why you're here."
Max smiled slightly, sharing a glace with Echo. Then he looks back to Adrian and Kira. "Well, that'd do it." He said.Kira nodded, a slight smile touching her lips. "What're the odds? Leave it to us to get lost in this sort of situation."
Max looked down at Echo, then back up at the Adrian and Kira. He shook his head sadly. "We can try, but we can only do so much." He said.Kira listened to the exchange, then looked up at Adrian. "We're not asking for much." She said to them. "Just a place to stay and then we'll be on our way."
Max nodded in agreement. "We'll do what we can." He promised.Kira smiled slightly. "That would be much appreciated." She said.

Kira's eyes widen in fear at the thought of either choice. In prison, everyone knew that the authorities tried to break you. Not to mention that all their fellow prisoners would hate their guts, just for being rich while they rotted away in prison. On the streets, they would be no less safe. She turns to Adrian, looking to see how he took the news.
Max described an action packed story, consisting of a person who was part of a rebellion, who was sent to spy on the government. That spy was then used by the government to spy on the rebellion. His love was loyal to the government, but he was loyal to the rebellion. He pauses from reading, trying to wrap his mind around the concept. Then he dove in again.
