I read a book that took place in the olden times. In the book, a kid sneaks into the government building and the leader of the government is murdered at the same time. When the cops come he hides and hears someone sneak out a window. He tries to follow them but can not. He goes to his friend's house whose dad is in the government. The dad gets arrested for the killing I think. In the end they go to a circus and they find out the murder was a kid from the circus but he is killed by the knife thrower. Realize that the kid was snuck in the government building in a box and told to kill the government leader. Also the main character has a friend who is a cop, and the cop tries to help him.

I read it 3 years ago in Canada. And the book was for teens or pre-teens.
