Trelawn This will probably be my next classics read. Was a little wary of it so I am glad you enjoyec it so much.

Trelawn Well after An Officer and A Spy I may read something to let my brain switch off and then try this.

Trelawn With the year coming to a close I am finally getting round to giving this a try. It's the last book in my Classics challenge so hopefully it's good. I haven't read much Eliot before so I haven't got much to compare this too.

Trelawn @ Emma does this pick up at all? I am 250 pages in and it's just not doing it for me. It's all fairly bleak. Everyone is harsh and critical of Maggie bar her father whose business has just failed. Aunt Glegg is a harpy. I just feel like I've waded through 250 pages of not much happening and am not sure I can face nearly another 200 pages.

Trelawn That's exactly what it feels like; a mild dose of Hardy

Trelawn I just don't think I can continue. It's not bad, the style is just not for me.

Trelawn Does Maggie end up happy?

message 8: by Seraphina (new)

Seraphina I've also stopped reading it and picked up a far happier Harry potter. The writing style is so off putting!! I might pick it back up after Xmas to see if it's just the time of year putting me off

Trelawn I'm also going for something light and picking up one of the No.1 Ladies Detective Agency books.
