I'm looking for a particular theme

I've been on numerous groups and looked through countless websites, yet there isn't a way to find a particular book. Most of the recommendations I recieved were for fantasy and not sci-fi. So, here's the criteria of what I want in a book at this particular moment: dealing with a male assassin as the protagonist, can be either hard or soft sci-fi, dystopian/apocalyptic/opera doesn't matter, preferrably a redemption or change of heart kind of story.
Does a book like that even exist?

I'm sure it is out there somewhere. I started to suggest C.S. Wachter's book, "The Sorcerer's Bane but it's not Sci-fi. It's fantasy and really good. My Defender series is a soft Sci-Fi but the Protagonist isn't a bonified assassin, although he is responsible for some individual deaths and inadvertently, genocide. There are some Christian Sci-Fi readers groups on FB. They might be able to make some recommendations.
