ozzy (dragonfangs) | 7 comments I read this novel by a teacher's suggestion in elementary school, circa 2012-2015. I would say it's targeted towards young teens/adults.

I suspect the cover was mostly black with a dreidel on it.

A young, most-likely Jewish, girl ends up in a concentration camp separated from family. I remember a scene early on in the book where she and a group of other Jews are getting their heads shaved and their wrists tattooed with a number: she is deeply uncomfortable that she is forced to be naked in the company of older men etc.

spoiler:
I also remember that the ending was quite confusing. A girl, which is either the same girl in the future, in a different reality, or an ancestor of the MC, is partaking in a Jewish celebration (not necessarily Hanukkah). Her and a few other kids are looking for an item of traditional value, perhaps a dreidel or a cornucopia (maybe even a hat, ribbon, or bow?), as part of the celebration. She has a sudden epiphany to her/the MC's time in the concentration camp, but does not know why and dismisses the thought. Fin

Any help would be appreciated (: would even appreciate suggestions for more novels about concentration camps, etc!

Yes, thank you for the quick reply! Just had a read-through of the first few chapters online - that's the one. Moving to solved (:
