Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Thanks for the reassurances everyone! :)

message 1402: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59978 comments I'm booked for my 2nd shot tomorrow. I'm a bit nervous because I did have a stroke within a week after having my first shot. But I know the two are not connected. My neurosurgeon said the timing of my stroke lines up perfectly with the amount of time it takes for the Plavix to clear your system. Plus, I'm on enough blood thinners that my blood shouldn't be clotting for any reason. It's one thing to know on an intellectual level, and another on an emotional level.

message 1403: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Good luck Janice! You'll be fine! But I very well know how knowing and feeling can be very different.

message 1404: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19200 comments I can see how that would be nerve wracking, Janice. I’m sure you’ll be fine too, but know we’ll be there with you in spirit!

message 1405: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11279 comments I understand why you are nervous, Janice. The mind keeps making the connection even though you know the explanation is different. You will be fine. There is nothing to be scare of, and being fully vaccinated will give you some relief regarding other worries. Good luck!

message 1406: by Jenn (new)

Jenn | 3029 comments I know it is hard to shake the connection, but I am sure you will come through with flying colours Janice ❤️

message 1407: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11279 comments Jenn, how are you and Sean feeling?

message 1408: by Shirley (new)

Shirley | 1509 comments Totally understandable Janice. All the best.

message 1409: by Jenn (new)

Jenn | 3029 comments Sean has been sleeping a lot, but is now entering the bored recovery phase where he starts vacuuming. I on the other hand have had to work my regular hours all week, took advantage of a day off to catch up on the much envied sleep lol
His quarantine is up Mon or Tues, but he still has a bit of the lingering cough, and a serious lack of energy. Hoping that passes quickly so that he can go and rejoin the rest of the world.

message 1410: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59978 comments Thanks for the encouragement. I'm sure it will be fine. I've had some in-depth discussions about it with my neurosurgeon. He told me yesterday that he will see me in September, and not any time sooner. First time I've heard him crack a joke.

message 1411: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I understand being nervous Janice. Your neurosurgeon sounds helpful though. I'm sure it will all be fine.

Good tto hear Jenn that recovery is going well.

I did wonder Janice but if your neurosurgeon says it not connected than it must be a different type of stroke. There's no way they'd do it if it would put you at any additional risk.

message 1416: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19213 comments Glad to hear you are both doing okay, Jenn!

That is the kind of medical team you want on your side, Janice!! I understand the hesitation, but think it's awesome not only do you have people explaining the reasons to you, but actually spending time doing that and answering questions. Glad you are in such good hands.
Hope the second jab goes without a hitch.

My doctor gave me a technical explanation that went over my head, but I did understand some of it. A very simple explanation is that the AstraZeneca blood clots involve a venal vs an arterial situation. Mine was arterial. Not only that, I had Moderna which is not associated with blood clots. I got a rather technical explanation about the differences between Moderna/Pfizer and AZ, how they're made and why the AZ may cause blood clods and Moderna/Pfizer don't.

I've also discussed the vaccines with my sister who is an ER RN in Honolulu. This was before I spoke to my doctor about it. She told me that they are not seeing people with side effects coming into ER. She said, "I know what your doctor is going to tell you. He's going to want you to get the vaccine." And she was right.

message 1418: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11660 comments Ah, thanks for going with the simple explaination Janice 😄 That must have been reassuring.

message 1419: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59978 comments I got my vaccination this morning and the pharmacist gave me some great information, not only about the vaccines but also about the blood thinners. He was very patient and asked me to stay for half hour instead of the usual 15 minutes because of my health issues. He said that he was glad I decided to go ahead with the vaccine.

So far, I just have a sore arm. After supper I zonked right out for a short nap.

message 1420: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11660 comments Good for you Janice, I think you made the right decision. These new varients are worrying. It is expected that Britain will delay it's reopening by 4 weeks.

message 1421: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11279 comments Great, Janice!

message 1422: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59978 comments My arm is very sore. It must be the microchip. Hopefully my wi-fi will improve. In 2 weeks, I'll check to see if I'm magnetic and can stick keys and utensils to my body.

message 1423: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11660 comments Yeah, the chip is a killer. I think it's actually made my wi-fi worse. My magnetism hasn't improved either ;-)

In that case I've been chipped for the at least 20 years 😂

message 1427: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19213 comments Lol I'm so blaming it on these conspiracy theories. I mean, I won't be vaccinated for another year, but it's all the vaccine's fault 😂😂

message 1428: by Marnie (new)

Marnie (marnie19) | 3263 comments My friend on The Gold Coast just got hers Thursday so hopefully you will get yours sooner than a year. Hopefully the countries that have vaccinations well underway will start surging the vaccines to the rest of the world. It would benefit us all.

Lexx has had his first shot. I am just so very lucky to be down the bottom of the list of priority. But the rollout here is so. bloody. slow. Until the Melb lockdown last week, there were still aged care homes that the government runs who were in the first bucket with healthcare workers (Lexx is in the second) who they just hadn't gotten around to vaccinating yet. I mean, whatevs.

Today, 4 months after they started vaccinating, today they are trumpeting that 100% of aged care residents had received 1 DOSE. I mean. It's not like they are going anywhere. You had a captive (sorry Aussie bluntness) audience and it took you FOUR months to give them one shot? JFC.

Could not organise a root in a brothel this lot. Put your Aussie holidays on hold for a decade people.

message 1430: by Esther (new)

Esther (nyctale) | 5198 comments Quebec took forever as well, this was due to the lack of dose coming in. Two months ago, I was pretty much thinking I would not get my first dose before July, if I was lucky.

Then all of a sudden, things sped up. Now we are told that 75% of the population got their 1st dose.

Pfizer doses seem to be piling up, so, starting tomorrow, I can log in our vaccination website and see if I can get my 2nd earlier. I am schedule for September 6. I hope I can slip in sometime in July.
We shall see.

message 1431: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) | 1793 comments I am also hoping for a July appointment for my second dose here in BC. It would be nice to have it done. I was expecting end of August or September too, as they said 4 months originally, instead of 8 weeks.

As an AstraZeneca recipient, I now have a choice on whether I get that as my second dose or I go with Pfizer/Moderna.

message 1432: by Amanda (Mandy) (new)

Amanda (Mandy) | 762 comments Here in the US they have approved the Pfizer vaccines for 12 and up. My kids got their first doses and their second is due next week. My poor kids didn't get a say and I kind of sprung it on them. They did great after 1st dose with just some arm soreness. Fingers crossed the 2nd dose goes as smoothly. The kids are going next month to visit family for a couple of weeks so I feel better sending them knowing they are vaccinated.

Good luck to everyone getting theirs.

message 1433: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments It was slow going in the beginning here too, but then all of a sudden it went very quickly. For people without any specific health issues it goes by order of year of birth, and suddenly there were 3-4 birth years in a week!

We have 5 weeks between shots.

message 1434: by Shirley (new)

Shirley | 1509 comments Great to see so many of you getting your vaccinations and yes Rusalka - tell it like it is. The slowness of our vaccination rollout is embarrassing. Gary and I have both had our first dose of AZ with no problems thankfully.

message 1435: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11660 comments I'm sorry to hear things are going so slowly in Aus. Here they're finishing up 50 to 55 year olds this week. We will soon be able to get it through the pharmacys so that should speed things up a bit.

I really think they should done the 18 to 30 year olds before us middle aged foggiest. It is so hard at that age not to socialise and to have all university classes on line. As soon as the sun came out trouble started in our cities with crowds of young adults drinking in the steets, parks and any public space. It didn't take long then for riots to break out. There are gangs trolling the streets trying to start rows. The majority of our young people are behaving perfectly, it is a small element but the atmosphere is not good. These people are angry at having to wait so long for their vaccine- not that that is an excuse for bad behaviour 🙄

Glad you guys have had your first shot. Lexx got AZ too, as it was that or wait months.

It just makes me so angry, you know in case you couldn't tell lol. There is no reason that we should be where we are in this process. It's completely government not listening to experts, and ideology winning over pragmatism. And all the leaders in the public service have been replaced with yes men who can't and won't stand up to gov to point out this was all flawed.

And it means we all suffer... But sorry, *cough* to quote the Prime Minister: HOW GOOD'S STRAYA!?!

*Mumbles obscenities in the corner*

Janice (jamasc) | 59978 comments Our province has issued a lottery. There will be 3 drawings of $1,000,000 each. The first draw will be people who have had at least one vaccine. The remaining two will be people who've received both vaccines. I think it's a really stupid thing, but I'm not proud enough to not enter. I can think of a few things I could spend that money on.

Jenn, did you enter?

It made the news here. The journalist said Alberta was the province with the highest percentage of people that did not want to get vaccinated.

This being said, I am not sure it is the good way to go either. But I would enter as well if I could. Because, well... It's $$ for something I would do anyway.

Janice (jamasc) | 59978 comments Esther wrote: "It made the news here. The journalist said Alberta was the province with the highest percentage of people that did not want to get vaccinated."

I know way too many people who are bucking the whole thing - wearing masks, social distancing, getting vaccinations, etc. And they're happy to pass on their misinformation.

The receptionist to one of my clients dropped off paperwork a few weeks ago and she declared that she knew what caused my stroke. She, who has no medical background, thinks she knows better than my neurosurgeon what caused my stroke. She said the doctors won't tell me the truth. If I don't have trust in my doctor, I'm lost.
