Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments For all the complaining people do around here we aren't anywhere near as restricted as it seems most of you all are. We have sports and concerts even starting back for people to see live. The catch is you have to either show up with proof of a recent negative covid test or your vaccination card to get in. People are furious over this but hey at least stuff is opening. My life is basically unchanged from before other than having to wear a mask. We don't have any lockdown or any of that

Saar The Book owl | 2650 comments The restrictions are slowly lifted up here in fases. At the end of the month I'll get my second vaccin. Now there is talk to vaccinate the children, but my son, who's 8 will never get it. That's a definate point I've made. My husband is 100% refusing his vaccin. I respect that, but it makes everything so difficult. It even causes arguments. He doesn't want to get himself tested also. My grandmother, who is 77, has got both of her shots and when she comes over to visit, she stands at the door and won't come in. When she finally comes in, she doesn't want to sit, stands upright for an hour and a from a distance. I think it's because Hans is refusing it.

message 1255: by Marnie (new)

Marnie (marnie19) | 3261 comments I received a text message from someone who is planning a graduation celebration for their daughter. The first message was: “ Have you had your shots?” I ignored it.

Then they sent a second one that explained they are planning to have two celebration options a vaccinated and an unvaccinated one. I ignored that too.

We plan on sending a card and sitting this one out.

People are justifiably cautious right now and I am too but some people have lost their minds. I’m going to hide in my books until the world makes sense. I think I’ll use my vaccine card ( yes, I’ve had my shots lol) as a bookmark.

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I had to make a parts run today. Put my mask on walked in store #1. No employees or customers had masks so I took mine off and put in my pocket. I hear the door open another guy walks in wearing a mask looks around takes his off. Went to store #2. Owner and customers weren't wearing masks so I went without one then another guy came in without one. When I left a gentleman was waiting outside with his mask on for the rest of us to leave. And that's fine with me . Went to store 3 and I just left my mask on truck sure enough no one masked. Now store 4 I know is fully compliant so I masked to go there because all employees are masked and about 90% of customers mask although I can see more people have been going in there without a mask I stop in there for breakfast every morning so I've been noticing the attitude changing. They aren't going to keep people wearing masks much longer I can see that already. People are just done with it around here.

message 1257: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Where I was headed with that last post is whatever a person chooses to do I think the main thing is to respect each other. Had those stores had their employees masked I would have worn mine or if most of the customers were masked I would have worn mine because I'm not out to make people feel uncomfortable or unsafe. I also am not bothered by wearing a mask but if I'm not going to be in a place for a long time I'm not sure it's doing much. I've been exposed several times and public health made a big fuss about were you in contact for 15 minutes. And if you weren't they're just kind of like eh youre probably fine

message 1258: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4536 comments I understand what you're saying about not wanting to make people feel uncomfortable or unsafe by your mask wearing behavior. Do you think they felt the same thing when they chose not to wear masks? Or was it just that they didn't want to or had had enough. Hard to say. Down here (Long Island) people wear masks when shopping or going into stores, at least the ones where I have gone, as well as trying not to crowd, maintaining distance. When I'm on the street, going for a walk, I have my mask with me and put it on when I approach others, or walk off the sidewalk to maintain distance. It makes me feel safe even though I'm fully vaccinated. I was hospitalized with covid last year and don't want to go there again. I suppose it's what makes you feel safe and comfortable. But for me, I'd like to be in control of that "safe and comfortable" situation rather than leaving it to others and their reasons for wearing/not wearing.

message 1259: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I will admit I do not live in a highly populated area so crowding really isn't a thing either. I'm probably not going to walk in a Walmart without a mask no matter how many aren't masked. I kind of judge the place the type of people etc. I knew the locations I went today I just wouldn't be crowded at all. They aren't that type of place

message 1260: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I'll tell you the weirdest situation I've been in was I went to a lawyers office a while back and no one in the lawyer's office wore masks. And my wife and I were wearing masks and they didn't even ask would you like me to wear a mask. Because it was a lawyer and people who are supposed to know laws and what not it was weird to see no one complying. That one felt weird and wrong and I kept my mask on.

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Just got my second covid shot of the moderna. Literally just got it. Sitting here waiting my 15 minutes. Now I have appointments to go to tomorrow so I better not get any side effects because I don't have time for that foolishness. Besides that it's not like I can call into work either

message 1262: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11650 comments Yay Travis! You mean you haven't thought your cows to milk themselves LOL

I just missed a call about getting my first vaccine and I con't get through to the number. So frustrating!

message 1263: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11270 comments Great, Travis! Hopefully you won't feel any bad side effects.

Margo, I hope you can communicate today!

message 1264: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Well of I had $250,000 to put in a robotic milker they could milk themselves but my piggy bank hasn't gotten that full yet

message 1265: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11650 comments Wow, that's a lot piggy banks, not just one 😂

message 1266: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I was not amongst the chosen to have no side effects. It's 1030am. I finally got out of bed. My fever is down from 101 to 99. This headache is no joke and my whole body hurts. I think even my hair hurts. I can hear my cows bellering because I'm several hours late for milking. I'm sorry girls just hold it the best you can I'm trying to get over there. I'm just so weak.

Maybe luckily though I had my milk pump go up last night so they never got milked until 11 pm once the repairman got me fixed up and running. A good 4+ hours after I had originally tried to start milking. I don't think the long work day and late night helped me with my shot but at least we're still less than 12 hours since the last time they were milked. It's all out of my control. Maybe I walked through traffic and got hit by a truck yesterday for real lol

message 1267: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4536 comments Sorry you had such a bad reaction. I had that hit-by-a- truck feeling too. It should go away by tomorrow. Hope the girls are okay. How many are there?

message 1268: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Luckily a lot of them aren't milking right now and are outside on vacation until they calve so there's only about 40 milking. About 80 altogether inside who need to get fed and then thankfully 20 outside on pasture. Wish the rest of the fence was fixed because they'd all get let out this afternoon

message 1269: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Hopper | 2430 comments I thought I would take a moment and share. I went to my doctor yesterday for a minor problem. While there, I thought I would schedule a bone scan and mammogram at our small community hospital. My doctor advised me to wait three months after my last Covid immunization as women having one before are showing up with some false positives on the side where the shot was given. To get a base line, my doctor did examine my under arm lymph nodes to be sure all was well and scheduled the test for later in July. I do live in the states and am not sure this is true for immunizations other than Moderna and Pfizer but thought I would pass it on.

message 1270: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4536 comments I heard on the news yesterday about some women developing swollen underarm lymph nodes following immunization on the "shot" sided. They said the swelling would subside in 4 - 10 weeks. Scary.

message 1271: by Marnie (new)

Marnie (marnie19) | 3261 comments 36 hours were our magic feel better time. My husband had a way worse time than I did but recovered in the same time frame.

Today is our two weeks post second shot. Hope your hours pass quickly.

I’m glad they figured that out about the mammograms. Would be truly scary to get a false positive.

Years ago, when I was younger, I spent several years working in a dairy, milking cows, etc. There were about 200. One of my favorite jobs.

I heard about the false positives with the mammograms. A friend of mine had to postpone her appointment. I'll be sure to wait at least 3 months. (darn, I just hate to put that off. ;) lol)

I usually enjoy milking unless I have a pounding headache then it's like cruel and unusual punishment. I always wanted to go up to 150-175 cows but it just never happened. Land prices started going crazy about 13 years ago and it just didn't ever seem to pencil out for me

message 1277: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Well. All I can say is there's talk of booster every 6 months and I hope that is not the experience to be had twice a year. Feeling good today. Little dehydrated. Trying to drink water.

message 1281: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59959 comments Here in Alberta, it's 4 months before your second shot. They're trying to get as many done with their first shot. They're just starting children 12 and over.

message 1284: by Jenn (new)

Jenn | 3029 comments I am booked for my first Pfizer next week, but now I am starting to hear reports of side effects coming out of Europe 😬 Didn’t have a life before, and have no plans involving travel, maybe I will pause . . . ? My guy had already decided to wait, his mom was so relieved when she heard I was booked, and beside herself in tears last night when she found out he wasn’t 😢 it is a rough topic in our house 😩 I don’t know what I’m gonna do 😞

message 1285: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) | 1792 comments I'd say it is worth getting the shot Jenn. So many things we take are more dangerous than any of these vaccines, though I totally understand your worry. I am currently obsessing about whether I have any symptoms that could mean I have a blood clot since my AstraZeneca shot last week. But I am honestly more freaked out about ending up on a ventilator in the hospital.
I also know of people who were super careful and still got COVID, so I have no faith that I can avoid it forever.

message 1286: by Jenn (new)

Jenn | 3029 comments That is true Dawn, and quite similar to the talk I had with my guy after work. Lol

message 1287: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59959 comments If you have doubts, the best thing to do it talk to your physician. I will be discussing getting my second shot with my neurosurgeon when he calls next week. I had a discussion with my sister who works in ER in Honolulu. She said they are not seeing people coming into ER with adverse affects. She said, "I know what your doctor is going to say. He's going to want you to get the shot." I still need to hear it from him.

message 1288: by Jenn (new)

Jenn | 3029 comments Those are also good points Janice. Unfortunately my doc is on holidays until after my appointment date lol. The guy that came to dethatch our lawn was also a paramedic and was talking about how full the hospital is right now. And, my boss hadn’t talked to one of his buddies in a bit, shot him a snarky text about a hockey score. Buddy finally responded that the hospital didn’t have the game. Tuns out he’s been in ICU for a week and a half, hospitalized his whole family (him, his mom, his sister, and his sisters kid) two in ICU, all but him have now been released. Lots to think about, in both directions 😬

message 1289: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59959 comments Yikes! That's sad. Our numbers are up again. It's exhausting. Maybe give the health unit a call because they'll have good information of the vaccines.

message 1290: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments Hope you've recovered, Travis! But yay to being fully immunised!

I reckon go for it Jenn. I am looking like I won't get vaccinated until 2023 as the government here is highly incompetent. I would personally take whatever is on offer as soon as I possibly could.

message 1291: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I think it comes down to this. How many people has coronavirus killed yet people are more concerned with the very small percentage of people having reactions to vaccines . When you step back and look where does the higher risk lie. Idk but it seems like the actual coronavirus over the vaccine

Katrisa | 4474 comments Travis wrote: "I think it comes down to this. How many people has coronavirus killed yet people are more concerned with the very small percentage of people having reactions to vaccines . When you step back and lo..."

That's the thought I subscribe to as well. No medication is risk free -and I am actually surprised that the vaccines are as side-effect free as they are! But vaccine side effects vs covid - vaccine wins in my opinion.

message 1293: by Renee (new)

Renee (elenarenee) | 1650 comments It is crazy here. Each county is making their own guidelines. I work with a personal trainer to help my mobility issues. I have some weakness d/t a stroke. The trainer helps me strengthen the muscles.

She works out of my health club. Wednesday they emailed us that the public health department is requiring us to wear masks at all time. They had said we could remove them while exercising.

My club is a chain. The club in the next town is in a different county. That county is still letting you .sk while exercising. So we are changing club until the restrictions are lifted

Saar The Book owl | 2650 comments I've got my first karate-training last Sunday since it stopped in October. It's still outdoor, but I enjoyed it.

I can't believe they are vaccinating starting from 12 years old. I can understand that adults get their vaccins, but for children it's risky and not tested enough.

Jenn wrote: "I am booked for my first Pfizer next week, but now I am starting to hear reports of side effects coming out of Europe 😬 Didn’t have a life before, and have no plans involving travel, maybe I will p..."

I don't think that the side effects are related to Europe, but to the vaccins ;)
And I know what you mean about a rough topic in the house. It almost ended up my relationship on mother's day.

message 1295: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) | 1792 comments I am ever thankful that all the important people in my life agree about getting the vaccine. I can't imagine the stress of having opposing views on it!
And it also so sad to hear about the relationships ending lately, it sucks to add more stress right now.

Destiny and Evan get their first shots tomorrow. AmyK has to drive them to the convention center in Portland in the morning.

I had my second shot last Wednesday and I was in bed 2 days - fever, chills and so tired. Was it horrible? yup. Did I get through it? yup. Will I be able to see my family the end of this month? yup. Would I do it again? In a heartbeat.

My arm is a little sore today, but nothing too bad. On the positive, the microchip seems to have greatly improved my wifi reception. :P
