Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19211 comments Nope. You've been so careful which means you have not gotten it sooner. It's a ridiculously transmissible disease. You've done well, Margo. So none of that negative talk - rest up, read, eat all the things, monitor yourself, and heal well. Sending you lots of virtual hugs

oh no!!!! That is no fault of your own. And better later than sooner as doctors have a bit of experience with it now. I hope it will not affect you much. Rest and take care of yourself!!!

Sandra (sanlema) | 11275 comments Margo, I hope this goes as smoothly as possible for you and everyone with symptoms in your house. How are you all feeling?

Roz | 4537 comments Even when we think we're being careful, covid sneaks up on you. As someone who had it, my advice is stay hydrated, eat healthy, rested and montor your symptoms. I don't know what they're giving you, but in the beginning I was given Vitamin C and Zinc (among other things that really didn't work). They know a lot more now. Sending happy thoughts of wellness your way.

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Margo - does that mean that Pete has to be tested, since it doesn't sound likely to have only a chest cold?

message 1059: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11656 comments Pete and Ciara have both tested positive. My mam is waiting for a home test but she is unwell with a headache and cough so it seems inevitably.

Talking with the contact tracers it seems likely that Pete picked it up at the shops. He has been complaining lately about peaple behaving badly in supermarkets, not social distancing nor observing the one way systems.

Me, I feel like I've been run over by a steam engine. I started with a rotten headache and sinus like symptoms. After nearly a weak I feel exhauted and my chest hurts from coughing. I'm so worried about my mum who is in her 80s.

With these new strains I think the only way to stay safe is to is to not go out at all. The silver lining is the disease is survivable. I am in the high risk group for multiple reasons but I know that in a week or two I'll be over the worst.

message 1060: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11275 comments Margo, I hope symptoms start softening and you feel better soon. Rest and take care. We are all thinking of you and sending good vibes your way.

message 1061: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19211 comments Hope your symptoms ease up, Margo. I hate that exhaustion from coughing feeling, even the idea of free sit ups wears very thin after a while.

Rest up and stay warm. And hope Pete and Ciara heal up quickly too, as well as your mam, but fingers and toes crossed she's somehow avoided picking it up.

Margo | 11656 comments I'm still hanging in here! Very little energy so not commenting but I'm updating my reading before I forget what I've read.

We are all recovering, I got the worst dose in the house. My uncle also got it - yes the one with lung cancer. Luckily he hasn't had any symptoms so far. The irony is that it was a completely separate outbreak, he got it from his carer. He's very cheerful at the moment.

This has totally knocked the stuffing out of me.

message 1068: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19211 comments Ah shit. I'm so glad your uncle seems to be okay at the moment, I was worried about him.

I'm sorry it's knocked you so hard, Margo. Rest up, heal well, update those reads so you don't forget, and just give us a literal word ("good!" "Bad" etc) now and then if you can so we know where you are. I hope you know how much good will and healing thoughts are coming your way. Xx

Esther (nyctale) | 5195 comments Public vaccination has started in Quebec. They are done with health care professionals and senior residences and opened vaccination to all over 80 year old. My parents are getting their on Tuesday. And they will get their appointment for the 2nd dose then.

The plan is to lower the age limit gradually to 60, then open to under 60yo who have health issues then everyone else. We will see how fast it will get to the general population.

I'm so glad to hear from you. I remember having no energy, not even for reading. Sucks! Rest and liquids. My doctors also said to try to walk at least 100 steps to keep the lungs working.

We have the same plan here in Alberta. I'm hopeful that I'll get vaccinated sooner than what we were originally told which was the fall.

Margo | 11656 comments Thanks everyone, your kind thoughts mean a lot to me :-)

I'm trying to build up my walking a little. I t was only friday that I could face the outside world at all but 100 steps sounds like a doable target Roz.

Pete is back to work (from home) tomorrow. I dread having to cope with Mum on my own and I'm also worried about how he'll handle it. He never takes sick leave and he found the last two very difficult. I'm sure thinks the company will close down without him LOL

Hey, anyone hear from Sarah, she's keeping very quiet?

message 1085: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sarah, I hope everything is going well with you and yours and you are just distracted sketching!

Sarah | 18550 comments Hey guys, long time no see. Apologies for the radio silence. I'll post about that over in the Watcha' doing thread.

All my covid sick family and friends recovered well thank you!

I got my first covid shot a few weeks back and my second dose is booked for the end of April. I had the Pfizer one. I am so relieved to have had it. About a month ago, I stopped looking at the news and the daily stats, first time all pandemic and it has made a huge difference. When lockdown starts to open up over the next couple of months, I will definitely be more relaxed about doing things compared to last year.

message 1090: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Hopper | 2430 comments I am so excited, I just had to share. I have been trying to get the Covid vaccine for two months now! I couldn’t even get through to the Health Department, all local pharmacies were booked and even around the state, I couldn’t get anywhere. I was 400 on our local waitlist. I am on a bit of a timeline as I have to get Part 2 of my Shingles vaccine by the end of April. I was so disillusioned as I received some bad advice early on from a friend I trust, and it complicated matters. Today, my daughter found a vaccine for me about an hour away. I have been calling the health department twice a day for the last ten days! Then, when trying to find my husband a vaccine, I found two about 45 minutes south. Booked! I cancelled the first one and then the phone rang and our local pharmacy called with an appointment for next Tuesday! All in one day! When it rains, it pours. We are keeping the appointment for tomorrow morning, and I am just so happy that we might see some light at the end of the tunnel.

Awesome Sharon!

I drove my parents to get their this pm. Their second dose is scheduled for May 25th. 12 weeks apart!!
I do not expect to get mine until July. We shall see.

Margo | 11656 comments Just finished my antibiotics for the chest infection, two courses plus steroids, and now I've got tonsillitis! I'm so fed up with being sick 😷

My cousin who got covid in the uk about 2 weeks before me, has just been diagnosed with pre diabetes. She is mid 30s, has no weight issues and was perfectly fit before she got covid. She is a med8cal receptionist and picked up the bug at a vaccine clinic where she received her first shot.

Hopefully the condition can be reversed with diet and excerise but this is a little known, or understood, side effect of the illness.

It's good to hear that people are getting the vaccine. Many of my elderly relations and neighbours are gett8ng it too. My mum should have been done by now but I guess that having covid means that she can't get the shot for a while. I'll have to look into it but hopefully we've all made lots of antibodies for ourselves!

Saar The Book owl | 2650 comments I'm happy to hear about you, Margo! Hang in there and I hope you'll recover soon.

This Monday I've received my first Astra - vaccin. The side effects were compared with the flue - vaccin, but I've never had that, so couldn't compare. I've got it in the morning, but by the evening I just felt so sick. Tuiesday wasn't getting better: fever, painful muscles, I couldn't bare any touch on the place where I've got the shot, even cloths were painful, dizzy, lot of toilet going and feeling so tired. I had to work yesterday and by noon I felt really week. Today is a bit better, but still weak.

We've got 100 people vaccined yet Monday in our hospital (another 400 will receive it), but Tuesday a minimum of 30 persons were sick because of the vaccin.

I think I underestimated it a bit the concequences of the shot. The second one will be after 3 months.

Margo | 11656 comments Saar, take it as easy as you can and let us know how you progress. Thinking of you.

Sarah, thanks for your kind words. My county went from hardly any covid to over 4 times the national average so we were hit hard by one of the variants but we survived it. I'm a bit concerned about the long term effects though.

message 1099: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11275 comments Feel better soon, Saar!

message 1100: by Saar The Book owl (new)

Saar The Book owl | 2650 comments @Margo: well, that has changed. They will give Astra now for people above 55, starting with 85. At least, here in Belgium. It changes all the time. I've heard that the younger you are, the more you are having side effects of it. I had my day of on Tuesday, but at work again since yesterday and it goes all very slow. Even thinking takes time. My collegue has the same effects.

@Sandra: thanks :)

About long term effects of covid: there's now a group called 'Long Covid' and the WHO will create a group to investigate on the long term effects, because at the beginning everyone was focussing on actual covid - cases.
