Nicole D. | 1573 comments This was a nice contrast to The Sixth Extinction: An Unnatural History! Basically a really long article about our instincts to come together in times of trouble. As my FB friends know, I've been struggling with the condition of our stores right now. Seems like everybody is out for themselves, and either trying to buy up every product they might need in the next few weeks, or buying what they think they might profit on in the next few weeks.

Meanwhile, I'm out there concerned about the retail workers and the impact this is having on them and when do they get to quarantine. The upshot of this book is that eventually we all get to that place where our instincts kick in and we care for the "Tribe." And even that in these times of stress (this was mostly about war) people are happier, because they are coming together as a community.

It was interesting and well-timed, but it could have been more fleshed out and a bit longer. Everybody should definitely read this.

Joanne (joabroda1) | 12569 comments I hear you Nicole-My husband and I were just talking this morning about why "the best" in people needs a disaster or any troubles to come out. I must say that my community has really stepped up, Restaurants offering to feed the kids that normally get their meals at school, Our Library Trustees have assured full pay for all the Library employees.

It appears that some of the chain groceries, that are normally open 24/7, are going to be closing from Midnight to 6:00 AM so they can restock-still that does not give the employees any kind of break or time to take care of their own families!
