Let's do a random read month again in April. You can nominate any book you want to read for the group read this month as long as it meets the other qualifications for a group read as listed below.

(Please recall that we don't vote for books we've already had as a group read--There's a link below to check our list of previous group reads).

Here are the other considerations:

1. One nomination per group member. The books must be nominated with a Goodreads link by clicking on 'add book/author'. If a book does not have a Goodreads link, it will not be added to the poll.
2. Books need to be readily available, ie, in print (able to buy new or in ebook format).
3. Books should have some degree of action/adventure content.
4. Past group reads are not eligible to be nominated again. The past group discussions remain open for members to comment. You can view the list of past reads here:

https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

5. Books must be either standalone or first in a series (or they may be later in a series if constructed to be read as a standalone).
6. Authors are asked not to nominate their own books or solicit nominations from members.

Please feel free to include a blurb for the book so others know a little about the book, along with your Goodreads book link.

Since we're very close to the end of the month, we'll have a shorter nomination period.

The poll will go up on March 20th.

Jamie Zaccaria | 83 comments I nominate Carpathia by Matt Forbeck.

Carpathia by Matt Forbeck

It's Titanic meets 30 Days of Night.

When the survivors of the Titanic are picked up by the passenger steamship Carpathia, they thought their problems were over.

But something's sleeping in the darkest recesses of the ship. Something old. Something hungry.

So we only got one nomination. Any other suggestions? I'll extend the period until the 23rd.

I'm going to nominate The Heretic by Joseph Nassise. It's free on kindle right now:

https://www.amazon.com/Heretic-Templa...

Here's the blurb:

Monsters prey on the innocent. He preys on the monsters.

As commander of the Echo Team, the Templar's most battle-hardened combat unit, Cade Williams spends his days working in the shadows, protecting mankind from supernatural threats and enemies. The public is unaware of the Order's existence, never mind the nature of the enemy they face and that's fine with Cade, for if it became common knowledge that monsters exist, chaos would result.

But now the Order's mission and secrecy are threatened when unknown forces attack Templar commanderies in the dead of night, leaving destruction in their wake. Cade and his team are ordered to put an end to the attacks before the battle spills into the open, destroying the hard-won balance between the darkness and the light.

By the time he gets to the bottom of it all, Cade will be neck deep in revenants, demons, and death magick. But the true nature of the forces arrayed against him will only be revealed when he comes face to face with an enemy from his own past, the creature known only as the Adversary.

Jenny a.k.a....Jenny from the block | 180 comments I'll vote for the last house guest

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/4...

Littleport, Maine is like two separate towns: a vacation paradise for wealthy holidaymakers and a simple harbour community for the residents who serve them. Friendships between locals and visitors are unheard of - but that's just what happened with Avery Greer and Sadie Loman.

Each summer for a decade the girls are inseparable - until Sadie is found dead. When the police rule the death a suicide, Avery can't help but feel there are those in the community, including a local detective and Sadie's brother Parker, who blame her. Someone knows more than they're saying, and Avery is intent on clearing her name before the facts get twisted against her.

Agnieszka (agnieszka7) | 237 comments Danielle, I'll be most likely in hospital in April. Can I still nominate a book?

In case it's possible (and I'll stay home) I nominate:
The Damascus Cover by Howard Kaplan The Damascus Cover by Howard Kaplan The Jerusalem Spy #1

In a last ditch effort to revive his career, washed out agent Ari Ben-Sion accepts a mission he never would have 30 years ago ─ to smuggle a group of Jewish children out of the Damascus ghetto.

Or so he thinks.

In Damascus, a beautiful American photographer, Kim, seems to be falling in love with Ari. But, she is asking too many questions.

His communication equipment disappears. His contact never shows up. The operation is only hours away and everything seems awry.

Realizing that he's caught up in a bigger and more dangerous game, Ari is desperate to succeed... and he's willing to risk everything... even his life.

The Damascus Cover is a gripping thriller with enough twists and turns to keep the reader intrigued until the explosive ending.

I will nominate Wool Wool (Silo #1) by Hugh Howey by Hugh Howey

WOOL is the story of mankind clawing for survival, of mankind on the edge. The world outside has grown unkind, the view of it limited, talk of it forbidden. But there are always those who hope, who dream. These are the dangerous people, the people who infect others with their optimism. Their punishment is simple. They are given the very thing they profess to want: They are allowed outside.

message 9: by Jenny (new)

Jenny a.k.a....Jenny from the block | 180 comments Okay, I wish to change my vote... Sorry but with all this pandemic stuff going on I found the congruent book; ”The Judas Strain” by James Rollins.

ju·das strain, n. A scientific term for an organism that drives an entire species to extinction.

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

From the depths of the Indian Ocean, a horrific plague has arisen to devastate humankind--a disease that's unknown, unstoppable . . . and deadly. But it is merely a harbinger of the doom that is to follow. Aboard a cruise liner transformed into a makeshift hospital, Dr. Lisa Cummings and Monk Kokkalis--operatives of SIGMA Force--search for answers to the bizarre affliction. But there are others with far less altruistic intentions. In a savage and sudden coup, terrorists hijack the vessel, turning a mercy ship into a floating bio-weapons lab.
A world away, SIGMA's Commander Gray Pierce thwarts the murderous schemes of a beautiful would-be killer who holds the first clue to the discovery of a possible cure. Pierce joins forces with the woman who wanted him dead, and together they embark upon an astonishing quest following the trail of the most fabled explorer in history: Marco Polo.

Agnieszka (agnieszka7) | 237 comments YAY my hospital stay was moved for after Corona so I'll be home in April. Still it doesn't look like The Damascus Cover will make it and the top one is way too scary for me :-(

That's a great idea! I'll see if I can deal with Caught I've read it's very eerie. I just got the ebook from my online library and will get the audio in a week.
I own The Damascus Cover so I'll read this one and (the second book I got first as well). Today I noticed the entire series is part of KU so if I like these two enough I'm considering to renew my membership to continue it.
The Heretic is too scary for me (I don't read horror) so I won't join for that one.
