SOLVED. A Girl and Daughters Befriend a Bear [s]

I need some help. There is a book that I read a few years back that I am trying to find the name of. The book is about a girl who lives with her father. The mother has passed away. The girl ends up having 2 children, at least one of which is her father's. Somehow, the father dies and the girl is left to care for her two children alone. At some point, a bear shows up, and the 3 befriend it.
I vaguely remember some sort of fairy thing and another bear that was once a human. I feel like the title had the word 'Tale' or something in it. Help?

Could it be based on the fairy tale "Snow White and Rose Red", which is about two girls and an enchanted bear who was once human? And before someone asks, no, it's not the Snow White with the 7 Dwarfs in a different story.
