Chelle_Rydz (chellerydz) | 31 comments Another step on my climb up Mount Blanc.
I just finished The Pale Horse by Agatha Christie ☆☆☆ (Vintage Paperback that I will be gifting to another Christie fan)
I liked it and plan on watching the Amazon series based on it this weekend. I have a feeling I will not be that happy with the changes they've made.

Next up is a cozy mystery I've had for a while - Death by Dumpling (A Noodle Shop Mystery, #1) by Vivien Chien

I finished Death by Dumpling (A Noodle Shop Mystery, #1) by Vivien Chien on 05/10/20
☆☆☆ it was a fun cozy and I will continue on with the series.

I'm gifting this copy to a friend that also likes cozy mysteries.

Chelle_Rydz (chellerydz) | 31 comments 🥾#16 on Mount Blanc. Sanctum (Asylum, #2) by Madeleine Roux
(Read 06/17/20 ☆☆☆; Paperback - donating it)
I enjoyed this book, somewhat. It was a quick read. I have a love/hate struggle with this series. I love the concept, the photos and the actual story. BUT, I really dislike the angsty teen drama going on. These kids are ANNOYING. I will finish the series however; I only have one left.

Chelle_Rydz (chellerydz) | 31 comments Finished The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek by Kim Michele Richardson . One more step up the mountain.
This is my favorite book so far this year. ☆☆☆☆☆. It is bleak and brutal, as well as beautiful and hopeful.

The Book Women were amazing. I enjoyed learning about this program and going on Cussy's route with her. I plan and finding out more about them. This story is also especially thought provoking at this point in history regarding color and racism, but done in an unusual way.

My only criticism is one I've seen in other reviews. Too many themed were explored in this book. I felt the mining/union story-line should have been left out. Or explored more.

I hope that I never take a book for granted again, and always remember how lucky I am that I can have a book ANYTIME I want one.

I wish for Cussy Mary a happily ever after.

Books'll learn you.
Thank you to all the Book Women.

Chelle_Rydz (chellerydz) | 31 comments One more book up the mountain.
One of Us Is Lying (One of Us is Lying, #1) by Karen M. McManus
Well. I just HAD to sneak read the last 50 pages at work. Shhh.
This was a fast and fun read. I didn't figure the big twist out until pretty late in the game and that made it better. I started having suspicions but I wasn't completely right. The story ended up really working for me. I usually do not care for books about teens. I find the kids too Dawson‘s Creek annoying, but these characters felt real to me. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for a breezy fun summer read.

Chelle_Rydz (chellerydz) | 31 comments Another step up the mountain with A Dark and Stormy Murder. I've had this book for a couple years.
This was a nice little cozy.
First off, I want Lena's life. The job, the house, the town. Wow!
The main murder mystery was okay but the secondary mystery is more intriguing and will spill over into the next book. The false leads were fun to work through and made sense. I really liked Camilla but the I found the main character, Lena, to be a bit judgemental and annoying. I hope she grows on me because I do want to continue the series. She also uses very old fashioned language at times that would seem better suited to Camilla. The other side characters are interesting and I'll enjoy getting to know them better.

Chelle_Rydz (chellerydz) | 31 comments One more small step up the mountain today with Herding Cats.
I love Sarah's Scribbles. This book was funny but also so true; especially for those of us who strive to be creative but struggle under crushing anxiety and insecurity. It's a great reminder to just MAKE STUFF.

Chelle_Rydz (chellerydz) | 31 comments Almost to the top of this mountain. Two more books to go. Catacomb was pretty good. I liked it much better than the second book. I have a love/hate thing with this series as I've mentioned before. I love the stories and the photos, but the three teens in this book drive me crazy. I want to bitch slap them constantly. I enjoy Roux's writing and really like her other books that I've read.

Dead Lake by Darcy Coates
Read 07/26/20 ☆☆☆☆;
This is my new favorite Coates book. I felt the tension all through the book, and found the supernatural and realistic elements blended well together. Loved it.
