Fantasy, main character's name is Maevis, red hair? Has to go into enchanted forest. Reddish orange color cover? Something about a black bird (bad) and two dogs. Middle ages kind of thing. And there were elves at some point. A big challenge with fire at the end? Sorry, memory is very foggy. Buy I read it in '12 or '13, so it must have been published before then.

Are you sure of the spelling? Could it be Mavis, or Maeve?
Maeve looks familiar, I'm not sure about Mavis. I'm pretty sure it had an e in it
Was the book for kids, teens, or adults?
Teen to adult. Nothing very graphic as far as I can remember

You're welcome! I was googling variations on site:goodreads.com "maeve" "fantasy" "forest" "red" -binchy, and her name/books kept coming up, but without plot details. I thought I'd suggest it. Then I took a closer look at the Sevenwaters series, and the last book had a Maeve.I'm glad I could help!
