I just read Walk Two Moons, a YA novel by Sharon Creech written in the 90s, for my book club and wondered if it works for this challenge or if that is stretching it too much? Thoughts?

I am currently readingGifts of the Peramangk by Dean Mayes for this task and it is amazing! It will break your heart at times but I am so happy that this challenge led me to this book!

Late to the challenge so enjoying reading everyone's picks. Decided on Three Day Road by Joseph Boyden and am loving it! Interestingly, I had a sample on my Kindle from several years ago at the recommendation of a friend and had thought "not my type of book".....well, that's the point, right? Reading outside our comfort zone and so glad I did. Plan to read Orenda, too. So many of the books you all are recommending are now on my TBR list! BTW, LOVED Round House by Louise Erdrich!

I was just listening to Get Booked and Amanda recommended The Night Wanderer: A Native Gothic Novel. It sounds great and I think I'll use it for this challenge task.

I just picked up The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian at a used book store.

I'm only a 100 pages in but it's super easy to read, very funny, and there are cartoons! haha.

I found Two Old Women: An Alaska Legend of Betrayal, Courage and Survival in my local library. Interesting tale from an indigenous Alaskan Athabascan author.

My library didn't have a lot of adult books so I went with Sing Down the Moon by Scott ODell.

I read The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie. Loved it and I'm looking forward to reading more Sherman Alexie!

Since it is so close to the end of the challenge I had to change my intentions a bit. I decided to listen to an audio version of either Challenge or Love Medicine from my local public library. Since they have a large selection of audio books so I figured that they would have audio versions of something from an indigenous author available (and I really wanted something from a Native American author for this task.) But they did not have any available except The Birchbark House by Louise Erdrich available to check out. This book is not for adults but for young readers. Readers about eight years old and up. But I was desperate so I checked it out of the library. I'm glad I did. It is advertised as being an Native American version of Laura Ingalls Wilder's Little House books and I think that it's a fair comparison. The story takes place in the upper mid west on Lake Superior not far from the settings of the Little House books. But it focuses on the story of a girl who is challenged by the Westward movement of the pioneers.

I missed this book by Louise Erdrich, I'll have to read it.

I read "follow the rabbit proof fence" by Doris pilkington re three aboriginal girls trying to find their way home, after being taken away from their family to be place in a "girls home", via the rabbit proof fence that their family members had erected
