Tabitha Vohn Ever had that experience where you couldn't wait to get your hands on a book, then once you finally had it you paused and said to yourself, "Huh...I'm just not in the mood to read this right now."

This happens to me a lot. A book can sit on my shelf for months (even years) until I get around to reading it. I feel like all those years of force-fed college literature have killed my ability to read on-demand as well (God bless bloggers and reviewers who do).

Am I the only freak who has this bookworm's issue??

message 2: by Shari-amor (new)

Shari-amor Yeah this happens to me. And it's usually necessarily the book, it's the genre it falls. Sometimes I'll overdose on reading a genre until I'm sick of it and when I get to that particular book that I've been waiting on, I just don't wanna read it. I have to read other books and come back to it. I can lose interest in a book or genre pretty quick and it could be a while before I pick it up again

message 3: by Shari-amor (new)

Shari-amor *not necessarily.

Sorry I'm still waking up

message 4: by Tabitha (new)

Tabitha Vohn Ha, I'm the same way with genres, too. And I've noticed that I read genres according to seasons: Oprah's Book Club-esque Lit. for summer, Gothic for Fall, Fantasy/Fairy Tale and Biographies in Winter...weird!

message 5: by Shari-amor (new)

Shari-amor Lol nah I just read whatever. I will say sometimes though that there are things that will have my imagination overactive, I will be in the mood to read more of a particular genre. Like Halloween will have me in the mood to read more horror. When movies like LOTR and Hunger Games come out, I wannna read more fantasy novels. Marvel movies make me wanna read more adventure and comedy.

Michael (michaeldiack) | 15 comments I generally go through phases where I will 'binge'read' everything I can get my hands on, but then, I'm ashamed to admit, I'll go several months without reading a single page of a book.

Lily Vagabond (lilyauthor) Yeah, many times I'll feel that way too. It's like, not tonight, honey, I have a headache.

Lol, that's a terrific analogy :0)

E.G. Manetti (thornraven) Can't say I've had that specific experience. I have had the experience of going stale on a genre or series. I've recently picked up JD Robb's 'In Death' series after having abandoned it for several years.

To follow Lily's analogy 'we needed a little time apart.'

message 13: by Shari-amor (new)

Shari-amor Lily, you make me giggle. Best analogy ever

message 14: by Lily (new)

Lily Vagabond (lilyauthor) I appreciate EG's analogy more :)

"It's not you, it's me, I need a little space."

Ah, the love affair of an avid reader.

I do this constantly which stems from my dislike of reading growing up. Now that I have more of a profound appreciation for reading because of fellow authors and my interest has peeked a bit you'd think I'd have no problem reading but nope..not the case. I really have to get in the mood and sometimes that's hard to do.

K.P. Merriweather (kp_merriweather) | 512 comments im the same way. depending on my mood i want to read certain books. i have a wide range of genres i read... and a huge stack of "to read later" thats taking up 25% of my bedroom (i may have a problem lolz). i hate dropping books (i use bookmarks) and it takes me a long time to finish books, unless i get suckered in or im laid up sick and have time to kill

I'm awful. Sometimes I have to force myself, like Justin at least read a chapter lol

message 18: by Lily (new)

Lily Vagabond (lilyauthor) Not referring to yourself in the third person might help...

:)

J.S. (jsedge) | 356 comments As Tabitha says, I wait yonks for a certain book, all giddy and excited for it, then it comes out and the release day is burned in my head and I d/l it immediately. Then I take a while to motivate myself to read it. Weird. Don't understand it. On one of those at mo. Last in a series, loved the series, been waiting for this one ages...not feeling it now I have it :/

That being said, I do find it harder to get into a book when I'm on a roll with my writing which is the current state of affairs.

I also go through fickle genre cravings. If I read an especially wonderful book in one genre, I'll binge on that genre in the hope of finding another stunner. Until I read an awesome book from another genre and then I'll jump over.
