Amanda | 95 comments Hello; please let me know if I need to comment in a different thread. I have been listening to some Great Courses on Audible and when I was looking at my Reading Challenge I noticed that they are both listed as "Not A Book" - please see links below:

The Power of Self-Compassion (4 hours, 14 minutes) Laurie J. Cameron, Self-Help/Memoir: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5...

Medieval Myths & Mysteries (5 hours, 6 minutes) Dorsey Armstrong, Nonfiction/History: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/4...

These should be considered books due to the GR policy on The Great Courses: "All recorded lectures such as The Great Courses may be added to the database provided they have an ISBN/ASIN, and if they are in the following formats:
* Audible
* Audio CD
* Audio book"

https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

As they are both available in Audible, they should be considered as books. Thank you.

Alan (The Lone Librarian) Teder | 32 comments I've attempted an appeal to the deletion of https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5... by using the following as the text to FLAGGING the Librarian edit that made it NOT A BOOK. My attempts at appeals in 2019 were never answered by GR Customer Help or by the Librarian, but that is no reason to not try again in 2020, especially when you can quote the Librarian Manual to show that the Librarian is not following the rules.

"I would request an appeal of this NABing. The Librarian rules under NABing says that Goodreads considers the following to be a book:
"recorded lectures (such as The Great Courses) with associated ISBNs or ASINs in the following formats:
Audible
Audio CD
Audio book"
As "The Power of Self-Compassion" is a Great Course, that has an ASIN number and is in Audible format, it does seem to meet all the requirements for being a book. Please reconsider this NABing. Thank you for your consideration."

lethe | 16359 comments I see they are listed as Audible Originals, which are not considered books.

I have no idea whether the Great Courses are an exception to this rule, though. Maybe staff should answer this one.

ETA Actually, they were NAB'ed by staff, so I guess that answers your question?

ETA..."

There is nothing in the Librarian rules that eliminates Audible Originals as books, in the case of The Great Courses the rules specifically even include them as books. Other Audible Originals are subject to exclusivity for a several month period before the authors can go to print or ebook format. Audible Originals are not necessarily podcasts (which do seem to be excluded as books) but can be short stories, memoirs, audio productions and dramatizations of books. There is various misinformation circulating on Librarian threads that identifies Audible Originals as being behind a paywall which would exclude them, but Originals are available to everyone for purchase, it is only that Audible members are given free access to a limited number per month. Anne ✨ Finds Joy (annefindsjoy) I agree Amanda, these should be considered books based on the Librarian page about NABB'ng (marking NOT A BOOK),
https://help.goodreads.com/s/article/...

The page specifically SAYS:
Goodreads considers the following to be valid book records:
- recorded lectures (such as The Great Courses) with associated ISBNs or ASINs in the following formats:
Audible
Audio CD
Audio book

that seems clear to me? 🤷‍♀️
