We haven't had one for a while, but never fear your industrious moderators have been taking notes!

We are thinking of a group read, starting around the 20th of April. I have just noted down ones I am able to lead. Hana currently very busy & unable to lead a read before May

So far we have The Enchanted April suggested by Bobbie
The Tamarind Seed nominated by me
& it has been a while since we have done a Thirkell! Next up is August Folly
There have been other suggestions - but I can't get hold of them! Does anyone have any other nominations - & if so, are you prepared to lead the discussion.

I'm hoping to put the poll up Monday or Tuesday (my time)

Fire away! :)

message 2: by Abigail (new)

Abigail Bok (regency_reader) I'm about equally divided between Enchanted April and August Folly. Don't know anything about Tamarind Seed, but willing to learn.

Susan in NC (susanncreader) | 2069 comments Thirkell is always fun, and I’d love to reread August Folly! I’ve not read The Enchanted April, but I’ve seen the film and enjoyed it! I’d enjoy reading the book, and Tamarind Seed sounds exciting, so all good choices.

Didn’t we put Wodehouse on the calendar for April already, or am I confused?🙃

A Damsel in Distress
Yes the Wodehouse is down for the 10th of April. 😊

I'd like to nominate Death in a White Tie by Ngaio Marsh a 'Golden Era' mystery, though I know I would enjoy all of the books mentioned. Maybe we could start a bit later (say the last week in April or the 1st week in May) so as not to crowd out our Wodehouse read?

We can make the read May if you like, Hana.

ANZAC Day is 25th April, so I'm usually reading WW1 poetry around that time.

I loved Death in a White Tie -- from long ago! -- and would love to re-read it.

or at the bottom of our home page.

Let the voting begin! :)

Karlyne Landrum | 1964 comments Ok, so Death in a White Tie for May? So we should vote for one of the others for April? (that's what I did, anyway :)

Ha! It depends which book wins. If I'm leading the read I can lead around the 20th of April, but I'm happy to push back until May if that is what most people want. But Hana isn't available till May for death in a White Tie.

message 13: by Karlyne (new)

Karlyne Landrum | 1964 comments May is fine by me for White Tie!

Karlyne Landrum | 1964 comments I'm ok with August Folly in April. I used to have a friend whose name was April, and her birthday was in June, so the months are fine however they fall...

Could anyone who wants to read one of these books, please cast your vote! :)

debbicat *made of stardust* (cr8zycat) | 336 comments I’m itching to do a group read with you all. Spring is finally here, at least in the south, and I want to sit on my patio and read. And read really good comforting books, feel good books.

debbicat *made of stardust* (cr8zycat) | 336 comments Ok. Just voted for Enchanted April. I’d consider the others tho if picked.

Really a great list and we should come back to it for round two and three. BTW Carol, I could do the last week in April as well as a May start so whatever works for the most people.

I second that sentiment but lol we have readers (and an esteemed Moderator) who live in the global Southern Hemisphere. So maybe we northern hemispherians (is that a word?) should say "Spring is finally here in the south of the north...." For me spring is almost here in my local north of the north.

The Enchanted April was a clear winner, but there also seems to be enough interest in a read of August Folly

I'll talk it over with my fellow mods tomorrow.

Would a 20th of April start on the Enchanted April suit everyone?

message 25: by Abigail (new)

Abigail Bok (regency_reader) Yes to April 20, and yes to reading August Folly after! I'm in a Retro Reads state of mind . . .

To be honest, I'm reeling from the events of the last couple of days. But some escapist fare will help! :)

After a lockdown March, an Enchanted April will be just what you need (though probably not in Italy).

Best wishes - we are merely advised to keep our distance from everyone.

Wow, too hot for me! It's blue sky, puffy clouds and a high of 48' here today. When the sun is shining, and the wind's not roaring, that's practically perfect for this Northener!

Just outside Carlisle, in Cumbria, England. We are not yet confined to home, but advised (as over 70s) to keep from large gatherings.

My husband keeps going to work, because he refuses to admit he might be over 60 (he's pushing 71). I've never seen him wash his hands so much and pay attention to what he's eating (and he's in pretty good shape for an old fogie), so there's hope he'll stay healthy!

Elizabeth was suggested as well, but in other groups I'm in having two books by one author divides the vote. We can nominate Elizabeth another time. :)

message 47: by Rosina (new)

Rosina (rosinarowantree) Amazon.co.uk has the collected works (Kindle) for £0.99, or the Enchanted April on its own for £0.49, also Kindle.

I am looking forward to this at the end of next month. A real holiday!

It's a great spring read, so I'm just fine with reading alone (it's also quite small). If any of your Enchanted comments ring any bells, I'll jump in on the discussion!

August Folly - 10 May :)
