And the book for the May prompt was not first published in May. Does that matter?

Anything counts if you say it does. The prompts were just a jumping off point, just something to get our creative juices flowing. We challenged everyone to read 5 books and maybe try to complete 5 prompts. They do not have to be our original prompts. You can come up with your own. I would imagine that you could pick up just about any book and figure out some feature about it that relates to the number 5. But really just read what you want.
I agree with you that finding a mystery with 5 or Five in the title is probably the most challenging. I don't think I'm going to complete that one. But I have plenty of other things to read so I'm not going to worry about it. I did find a Hardy Boys book with the word Pentagon in it. So that is probably as close as I will get. A few people are reading a mystery with the word cinco in the title. That would absolutely count.
I'm sorry about your frustration. The prompts and activities for MMM are just meant to be fun and an excuse to interact with other mystery readers. We don't expect any one person to participate in all the things. I hope this helps. Happy reading!

Sort of have to find an author that you enjoy reading.
I don't like any Sherlock Holmes because of the meticulous attention to detail. This may be due to the fact that Sir Arthur Conan Doyle started out as an eye doctor.
I tried to read a Donna Leon mystery. Found the pacing of the story to slow and also not any information about the main character.
That's two that I didn't care for.
But there are other fish in the sea or in this case sleuthing around the corners.
Anna Perry; Death of a Stranger, is one that I am currently reading and really enjoy her William Monk character and the setting of Victorian England.
Agatha Christie is on deck.
Here is hoping that the grand Dame of mystery doesn't turn out to be a spoiled fish.😉

I think it is horrible and doesn't say much for our society when a murderer can live a happy, profitable, comfortable, and accepted life writing murder mysteries of all things and be awarded for it while her victim lies moldering in the ground her life snuffed out.
I hate Anne Perry and there will be no forgiveness from me. I think she shouldn't be allowed to write and all her books burned.

I think it is funny when booktubers jump on a hashtag to get viewers to their channel when they don't even read the books in question.

Favourite series. Ha be you tried Oscar Dr Muriel'sFrey & McGray series especially Loch of the Dead set in Scotland. Martin Walker Bruno Chief of Police. MC Beaton a great cosy mystery author. They all have more than 5 in the series. Hope that gives some extra suggestions. Catherine

Hi Alan,
What is your channel name on Youtube? Feel free to put a link in this discussion thread. It's nice to be able to find each other on all the forms of social media.
I feel the same way as you about Sherlock Holmes. I tried the first two stories and wasn't a big fan. I did see the first episode of the newer TV series and liked it better than the book.

Hi, Elizabeth and everyone. I have decided that I am going to read a real-life mystery for "five." 'The Five: the untold lives of the women killed by Jack the Ripper" by Hallie Rubenhold. These women have been pushed to the background with the ripper's notoriety. I appreciate that the emphasis in this book in on the women, not the prostitutes all that has been touted through the ages. There are quite a few holds on the copies my local library has so I may not get this in time for March, but will read it for this prompt belated.
And my book for may was a reprint in may because months are not usually listed and I can't afford to buy anything.
Next time make your prompts a bit easier and more fun.
