ABANDONED. Y/A probably - 2 sisters surviving after some kind of uprising

This was probably at least 5 years ago. What i can recall is there was some kind of war/conflict and the mother was killed and a father and 2 daughters escaped. They believe they are the only survivors, they live in a cave hiding from whatever it was that killed everyone. The father dies. Eventually the older sister finds another family that survives. They are constantly hiding from these creatures/monsters that come out at night. I know this is somewhat vague, but does anyone have any idea?

Was this fantasy or dystopian, or was it based on a real war or conflict?

Can you remember anything about the creatures or monsters, were they like aliens or vampires or werewolves or another known creature?
