I read this book in the early 2000s. I'd say it's chick lit but of a clean and more "serious" nature. A woman runs up an enormous debt trying to keep up with her neighbors and esp. her best friend. I remember a scene toward the end of the book where she buys a bunch of patio furniture for a big party she is giving. I think there is some sort of cataclysmic event at the end--like she has embezzled (maybe) and the whole thing comes crashing down around her ears.

Possibly told in first person POV. Thanks!
