Books I've Read and Hated: A Separate Peace, The Jungle, All the Pretty Horses, Savage Desire

Genres I refuse to Read: There isn't a whole lot that I wouldn't read either because I like to explore new ideas. However, I tend to steer clear of more political genres. Reading political books are informational (as long as they're based in facts), but aren't my idea of relaxing. I used to read YA a lot in high school, but kind of grew out of it. I don't mind it, but I don't consume it the way I used to.

Thanks! I've read two of yours also. I liked Bridge to Terebithia and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. I remember watching the movie Bridge to Terebithia with that one kid that plays Peeta in the Hunger Games. The movie wasn't my thing, but the book was good.

What genre(s) do you refuse to read?
- Romance (unless it's really a really good romantic comedy)
- Crime fiction
**Edited to add that I only refuse to read those genres on my own but would be up for reading those books in the group.**

Hi Michelle! Welcome! I've never met anyone that hated the Giving Tree before; I like it, but I don't love it. Although I do really like Shel Silverstein. I like true crime, too. I would like to read that Jeffrey Dahmer graphic novel, but unfortunately, the libraries are closed and I feel like that's a book I have to have a physical copy of. I'm not a fan of ebooks. I actually haven't read the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe even though I would watch the movie a lot when I was a kid. I did read the Magician's Nephew, though, and loved it. Right now, we are reading The Secret Garden; I like Frances Hodgson Burnett. We're about ten or eleven chapters. I try to think of books to read for the next month in advance to give a heads up especially now since the libraries are all closed so I am open to suggestions. Anything in the public domain is the easiest thing to get a hold of or if you see anything on the Overdrive that's easily accessible. There isn't really a theme to this group; my goal is to keep it casual and friendly. It's great having you here; I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy.

Hi Kendyl! I love your name! I've never seen that spelling before. Well, I hesitated to write The Giving Tree because everybody loves it but it was just upsetting to me. The overall message was great though. Who wrote the Jeffrey Dahmer book? I'm not a fan of ebooks either. I got a copy of the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe on my 9th(?) birthday. Loved reading it as a kid. It really inspired my imagination. I've never read the Magician's Nephew. I've read the Secret Garden and watched the movie when I was a kid, but I forget a lot of the details. I'm excited to get into it :)
