Hey Everyone!

You may or may not have noticed that two books (Goat Song and The HAB Theory were on the list of books coming up and now they are not. Sometimes I select books and add them to the page without checking to see their availability. That's almost always a mistake. When doing things correctly, I check my library and then amazon. If it's not at the Seattle library or I can't get it for a couple of bucks or so, then I don't add it to the page. (Or in this case, I remove them.)

How do I choose the books we read? Well, I have a spreadsheet that I have compiled of all your suggestions and then I add other books that I come across that seem to fit our mission. Some suggested books get ruled out because they aren't old enough, hard to find, or I hate them. (Sorry about that last one, but it's true.) I don't always let people know their book suggestion isn't going to make it, so if you have any questions just shoot me a message. Sometimes I miss adding a book to the list, and sometimes it just takes a while for a book to make it into rotation. (I try to make sure we have a wide variety of genres to sample through the year.)

What makes a good book suggestion? It should be:
1) Older than 25 years
2) Definitely a genre book. I get a lot of suggestions that are classics or literary fiction. (Admittedly there is some overlap. Frankenstein would work for our group, but not Adam Bede.)
3) Easy to source. If it is available as a reasonably priced ebook, chances are most people will have access to it.

Have a great day, and I look forward to many more reads with you!

Cheryl | 1161 comments Thanks for the info, Adelaide! I agree that the book should be free (such as a library book) or very inexpensive. I’m always willing to try books by new-to-me authors as long as they meet this criteria.
