Trickster | 12 comments I thought this book was by Ruth Rendel. A woman manipulates a man and he ends up hospitalised. But eventually recovers. They made a TV play of it but changed the name. I thought it was drussila

HeavyReader | 450 comments I take it you went through the whole list of books by Ruth Rendel? If not, https://www.goodreads.com/author/list...

I went through a couple of pages of the list of her books and saw none where the title of the book was a girl's name. But as I said, I didn't look at everything.

I saw that several books by Ruth Rendel were collections of short stories. Could the "book" you are looking for actually be a short story?

During what time period is the book you are looking for set?

When did you read the book?

In what ways does the woman manipulate the man? Why exactly does he end up in the hospital?

Trickster | 12 comments Yes I looked at the list of Rendel books before I posted. Could be a different author. Time period was modern. I can't remember the method of manipulation but I think the motive was financial. He ends up in some sort of semi comma. But gradually recovers his memory. And she gets her comeupance

HeavyReader | 450 comments Have you done a Google (or other search engine) search on something like "writing by Ruth Rendel turned into television show"? That might yield some info.

Maybe also try something like "Ruth Rendel short stories" and that might give you a list of titles you could look through to find the girl's name you are looking for.

Tab (tabbrown) | 5084 comments The Face Of Trespass by Ruth Rendell has a Drusilla (in case you were misspelling the name)

And, it was a movie

Trickster | 12 comments Thanks for the responses. Don't think it was the face of trespass. Must be a different author.

Great, don't forget to come back and let us know if that was the book.

You may know, Ruth Rendell also writes under the name Barbara Vine.

Trickster | 12 comments Thanks, yes I knew about Barbara vine. Will get to the library this week some time,

Did "The Face of Trespass" turn out to be your book, Trickster?

Sheila (sheilareads) | 100 comments Anna's Book (also called Asta's Book) has a woman's name in the title... but I'm not sure the plot matches up. It's been years since I read it.
