Should Godfather book series have been printed?

The book stands out because of its page turning writing style and something else: its theme. The theme of the Godfather is that The Catholic Church, Big Business and Government all behave like the mafia. This is why it was great then and remains a classic today.
So since the first film made that point, what more can it say in another film? Didn't Part 2 simply make the same point and wouldn't sequels be just another gangster film with nothing new to add? There shouldn't be a remake or rebook should there?

No, there should not. They are keeping the series going now with ghostwriters, unfortunately. It's grotesque and appalling.

Yes there is a lot more one could 'say' theme-wise if one begins with the springboard you mention. But its just a matter of greed--so add publishing houses and hack authors to your list of rapacious institutions.

:(

p.s. page-turning writing style begins with Dashiell Hammett!

When I saw the title The Godfather Returns, I wondered, since he is dead, does he return as a zombie?

ha! ha! I see what you did there
