Pam | 13 comments I read this book in the very early 90s, though likely it is older given the public library I had checked it out from, children's or middle readers book about a young girl, I think she was either mute or didn't talk much at all because she had suffered from a long illness and recovery - not cancer, maybe mumps, definitely something contagious so that she was isolated at home and didn't go to school. Though now that I think about it, maybe hard of hearing, though not necessarily deaf - it would have been caused by complications from the illness. She liked to go to the woods or a wooded park to be alone outside. Eventually she meets a boy in the wooded area; I think he was there to get away from an abusive family but I don't remember. All I remember is that the cover was green and had a picture of the girl and some trees on it

Pam, I added a few details to the header/topic title at the top of the page, so your book might be recognized from that description alone. Many members only read the headers.

You can update it by clicking the small "edit" link after the header. This only works on the full Desktop website - not the Mobile website or app. (On the Mobile website, click the "Desktop version" link at the bottom of the page.)

I just looked up some old book covers for that book. Thank you Rainbowheart, that is the book. I wasn't sure from that description since I seem to have remembered some of the details wrong, but seeing the cover, that's definitely it.
Thank you!
