If it includes the same characters then it is considered part of the same series on Goodreads. Even if the novel can stand alone, it is still part of the same universe, which allows it to be part of the series.

It does not contain the characters even remotely. I was a bookseller when this was published and am in close contact with the author.

The book's description makes it quite clear it features Tory Travers. So do a number of the reviews.
