regency book that set in 1800s where a jilted widow is a womanizer and gains a wife through ship maker demands as he is dying and trouble ensues.

Has a daughter from the first marriage that is named Emily, and is unsure of the parentaged until the new wife proves it by the birthmark on their knees. Basically they fall in love, and then trouble ensues from the former mistress, both new wife/daughter disappear while new wife is pregnant, then he finds them. I think it was released between 1990-2000? Not sure of when I read it exactly.
