Sam Fldmin | 18 comments I read this as a kid, after 2010. I didn't usually read new books then, but it seemed new. Marked this as realistic fiction, because I'm 80% sure that was the genre, however there may have possibly been some magical special thing about the main character that kept him from freezing, I'm not certain.
The main character was a boy with autism (or something similar), and Alexander Calder's art is one of his special focuses (not sure if that's the right terminology). The boy's name could have been Calder as well. He makes two friends over the course of the book, a girl and a boy, I think. They go on a field trip to the english countryside for school, and the boy and his father stay in an old inn which happens to be near Calder's Bull sculpture. Towards the end of the book, the boy ends up trapped under ice near a river, and survives off of oyster crackers he had in his jacket. I think about this book every time I eat oyster crackers and it's bugging me that I can't remember the title!
