KarenF (cleocleveland) | 458 comments I keep forgetting to post. Anyway I recent read When a Scot Ties the Knot (Castles Ever After, #3) by Tessa Dare & Archangel's Enigma (Guild Hunter, #8) by Nalini Singh - Both ***** reads

In between I enjoyed So Tough to Tame (Jackson, #3) by Victoria Dahl which I also enjoyed.

This morning I started Once Upon a Kiss (Book Club Belles Society, #1) by Jayne Fresina which is really fun so far.

I was kind of "off" romance for a while but I seem to be picking it back up with a vengeance now!

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments I started The Boys in the Boat Nine Americans and Their Epic Quest for Gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics by Daniel James Brown several days ago and I'm really enjoying it. It has made me tear up several times already. I'm reading it for my "in-person" book club that meets once a month.

I also started Tempting Danger (World of the Lupi, #1) by Eileen Wilks via Kindle and, on audio, My Kind of Wonderful (Cedar Ridge, #2) by Jill Shalvis .

Jumping all around in my cookbooks:

Made a potato salad this morning from The Oh She Glows Cookbook Over 100 Vegan Recipes to Glow from the Inside Out by Angela Liddon . Roasted the diced potatoes instead of boiling them...turned out delish!

Made Cream of Broccoli Soup Concentrate earlier in the week, from The Homemade Vegan Pantry The Art of Making Your Own Staples by Miyoko Nishimoto Schinner and ate it all before I could build my vegan pot pies. LOL!

Also made the same day "cheddar cheese" from Artisan Vegan Cheese by Miyoko Nishimoto Schinner that turned out so good.

Made glazed carrots in thyme & maple sugar last night from The Air Fryer Cookbook by Williams - Sonoma Test Kitchen . Love my new Airfryer that I got for Christmas.

And looking at making Key Lime Pie from my cousin, who will be visiting next week, from Idiot's Guides Baking by Alexandra Zohn . Unless anyone knows of a really good one?

Robin (robinmy) I had a good reading week. First I read It Happened One Wedding (FBI/US Attorney, #5) by Julie James It Happened One Wedding by Julie James. Another fun contemporary romance.

I also read At the Stroke of Madness (Maggie O'Dell, #4) by Alex Kava At the Stroke of Madness by Alex Kava. This series gets better with each book.

I have a question for you: How long ago does a book have to take place to be an Historical-Romance? Even though it takes place 40 years ago, I think Hot Shot by Susan Elizabeth Phillips qualifies.

I would agree, Anita. That period of time is "history" now. Unfortunately, it went by all too fast. But, luckily, I lived it. My husband was one of the first 12 people into Silicon Valley to developed PLDs. (A Programmable Logic Device is a generic term for an integrated circuit that can be programmed in a laboratory to perform complex functions. A PLD consists of arrays of AND and OR gates. A system designer implements a logic design with a device programmer that blows fuses on the PLD to control gate operation. System designers can use development software that converts basic code into instructions a device programmer needs to implement a design.) He was rare, in that he did both hardware and software design. An interesting and fun time! I really saw that valley expand - rapidly.

However, back to your question, and just to play Devil's Advocate, Kaye Dacus says this, in her blog article Writing the Romance Novel: Historical Romance vs. Historical Fiction:
Oh, and just to add one more facet to the definition: the works of Jane Austen, the Brontes, Elizabeth Gaskell, etc., are not considered “historical” romance—because they were contemporary romances when they were written—set during the time period in which they were actually written. A true “historical” is written by someone not living in the time period in which the story is set.

I agree with this. That's why I don't consider Agatha Christie's books as 'historical mystery'. She set them in time she wrote them.

I have read all the SEP books except Hot Shot It is the my last SEP book. I think the over 500 page length put me off, but I really love it and the computer history and tech don't put me off at all.
